I opened it a little too soon while cooking my 1st waffle but still came out Very Well and crispy 😋 great non stick surface only a small piece left behind and I think it was from lifting the lid before it was all the way done other than that it came out clean. Only down side was waiting 90 minutes before using it to complete the seasoning process. Worth the wait and won't take up a lot space to store it

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews for this product but decided to take a chance anyways because I know how good a cast iron pan can be if taken care of properly. The seasoning process was longer than usual since I put a little too much oil trying to get around all the notches, leading to a sticky pan. After fixing it, it took 5-6 tries before I got the perfect waffle as shown in the picture, but even during those initial tries, the waffles I got were crispier and far tastier than any waffle I've ever had, including what I've purchased from restaurants. The waffles were soooo much better than anything I've had using an electric waffle maker, that's for sure.It can be a pain to clean around the notches and it does take a while, but if you really want a great waffle, then it's worth the time and effort. I definitely recommend getting pot holders and using oven mitts because it's impossible to handle the heat otherwise. I would also recommend getting some sort of drip tray because when you coat the pan with cooking spray etc, it will leak through the hooks that connect together.

A cast iron waffle maker. Quite small and thin. I spend most of my life in the wilderness, and I want to take waffles with me! Not sure this is going to last long, sort of flimsy. bought "used", but in good shape.

Great unit!Learn to preheat cast-iron before using. If not perfectly tempered, pre-heat properly, and use enough butter/oil to prevent sticking.Once you get the pre-heat temperature, and oil amounts, it is great. I use olive oil, and after heated, pour excess into my cast iron pan to avoid a mess on the stove.Preheat should create conditions where water bounces on pans.

So, I bought this waffle iron used, figured I'd save a few bucks...I should have bought it new! Buyer beware, when I recieved mine today it had burnt batter in it, the person who returned it didn't bother to clean it.Also, it does NOT come preseasoned! If you don't know how to season cast iron look up a tutorial on YouTube.I seasoned this iron with about 3 layers after cleaning it out. There is a learning curve but just keep the heat as low as possible, preheat both sides on separate burners lightly oil and fill about 3/4 of the diameter of one side of the iron with batter, let it cook and when it starts to bubble up, like pancakes do, attach the second side of the iron, flip and cook for about another 2-3 minutes or so.It will take a few tries to get the hang of it but I was eventually able to get pretty great waffles with minimal sticking!FYI if you don't mind waiting a few weeks for shipping, Ali express has the exact same iron for $11. Do with that information what you will.

Opted for a refund, I’ll go with a better brand. The pin on it broke the first time I used it. I give it two stars because it did work, I used lard and had no sticking issues. I consider the quality to be very poor and a complete gamble. I was lucky it broke within the return window. Had it broke a month or two down the road I would be SOL. Skip this and look for a better brand.

This does not come pre-seasoned, so when my family used it without knowing that it was very hard to clean. I have now seasoned it and it's still hard to clean. It's very small, slightly less than 6" in the description. Does sit flat on an induction cooktop.

I was skeptical that this would work on my Frigidaire induction range, largely due to its similarity to the Lehman's unit, which states it will not work with induction. After some learning curve challenges, I made a good batch of waffles.First, I seasoned this with canola oil and baked it, with a sheet underneath, at 350° F for an hour, letting it cool down inside the oven.Second, as this unit comes apart very easily, I sprayed both grids heavily with nonstick spray. On my Frigidaire, I used 2 burners that are the same size and put each grid on a burner on power level 6, until unable to hold my hand 2" above the grids for a second.Third, I turned the power level to 5. I reassembled the unit, poured the batter in, flipped it and set a timer for 4 minutes. After this I flipped it again, repeating the same length of time. The result? Perfect waffles. However, the grids do need sprayed with nonstick spray between each application of batter.Hope this helps. Cleanup was relatively easy.

Quite a terrible product. I’ve used 3 different types of waffle makers bfore and made plenty of different types of waffles, by far this one is the worst. Cheaply made, heat is not evenly distributed, easily rusted, and worst off the 2 sides of waffle fall apart, despite much of butter or oil coated on both sides.Waste of money, do not buy. Have to throw it out after the first use.

Seasoning warning! The one negative I have for this product is that it does arrive with a factory carbon finish on it that is very rough. It can be a bit of a trick to get oil in all of the crevices, but once you season it, this thing will last forever.Cooking:I have your standard electric coil stovetop. I set it to medium high and gave each side a good hit of cooking spray. Filled one side of the pan with batter, closed the lid, then flipped it. Cooked for 3 minutes then flipped again, 3 more minutes then onto a plate. Didn't have any issues with sticking.Comparison:Prior to this, I had a couple different $150-200 electric waffle unit with removable plates. One of which had batter overflow between the plates and the plastic and never worked again. The other still works, but has developed hot spots on the cheap coil that runs inside those electric units. For $30 this product makes waffles that are much crisper on the outside, but soft on the inside. Conclusion:If you know how to work with cast iron, this thing is fantastic. Instead of buying a new waffle maker every 5 years, get one of these and it will last forever! The waffles it makes are substantially better, and there isn't an electric model out there for this price! I made 1 dud waffle trying to figure out the right process, and it has been smooth sailing ever since.
