Hex Head Lag Screws
Also known as lag bolts, they have a hex head for a secure grip with a wrench. They press threads into material for a tight, secure hold. To prevent splitting, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw. Length is measured from under the head.

I ordered M6 x 65 screws. The length was several mm short, the diameter was closer to 5mm than 6! I wouldn't buy this brand again.

These are M6x50mm wall lag bolts for bolting something through drywall into a stud. They have 10mm socket heads. I used a couple to put up a TV arm mount. Quality was fine and they were designed to work properly in this use case.

These lag screws are heavy duty. I kept having some fence panels pop off because of old screws and nails, and thought these lag screws would do a better job of keeping the old wood in place. The problem with the thinner wood screws is that they strip out of the old wood pretty easily. I will definitely have to replace the fence in the next few years, but for now I am just trying to buy some time, so I am happy to see that these solid lag screws are keeping things together. The one true test though will be how they hold up in the humidity of South Florida. I will update if I start to see them rust, but at least for now, I can say that they are looking good. I definitely recommend.

These lag bolts are heavy duty and are holding a lot of weight from the shelves they are supporting. These lag bolts didn't break or have the head strip off, they went in and stayed where I anchored them. Will order more of this next time I am in need.
