This is a decent bit. I have made several holes in plastic, stainless steel and some light steel and the bit has helt up well. My only complaint is there are a bunch of sizes in on one bit and the steps don't seem to be very large, so it's hard to stop at the right one and if your material is a bit thicker the holes will be stepped, so keep that in mind.

I had a few tasks in mind for this step bit when I ordered it, so I was pleased that it arrived so fast. I needed to enlarge the holes in my metal storage shelves. I have a piece of angle iron that I made from a discarded bed frame That I want to use to reenforce the shelf. It is holding quite a bit of weight and only supported on 3 sides and is showing signs of sagging. This will help to support it from the front as well. This bit was able to enlarge the hole to what i needed quickly and safely. I used a drill press and clamped the angle iron down. I have a few of these step bits and they tend to grab the edge when you first make contact and that can yank the drill out of your hand and can hurt your wrist. I used 3-in-1 oil on the bit to help cool and lubricate it. This is definitely the largest step bit in my collection and one that I feel comfortable using with metal. This is not something that I will use a lot so this should last a long time. This cuts nicely and leaves a very clean edge with the need for minimal filing after. I was also able to use this bit to make a hole in aluminum to run dowel pins through to make a center finder. I will reserve this bit for use in metal and use the other ones for wood. So far, I am very impressed with this step bit and can recommend it to add to your collection.....

PRODUCT:“Bestwork M35 Cobalt Step Drill Bit Set, Four Spiral Flute Unibit Step Drill Bits (1/8"-7/8") Wear-Resistant TiAlN Coated, 1/4" Hex Shank for Metal, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Wood, Plastic (3Pcs) (1/8"-7/8" (3Pcs))”LIKE:MORE steps per bit than I’ve seen on my older versions. The cutting edges are also wrapped around the bit like a drill bit. (my other ones are 2 straight down)Four cutting edges instead of 2 on my other ones. (I find this design cuts faster/smoother/better).(my old version once left an oblong hole.)Like other types, these take a while longer to cut through to make the first hole.I find it faster and easier, especially with thicker stainless steel electrical panels, to use a normal drill bit to make the first guide hole with. THEN switch to this bit to make the size hole I need.I did find this bit easier to “stop” at the size hole I was needing than my old version bits. I'm still using fairly slow drill speeds and cutting oil helps reduce wear.It looks like the “steps” depth widths are ~3mm each or ~.12” (~1/8”)Some other bits like this can drill deeper single size holes through thicker material, but they won’t have as many sizes per bit to choose from. Much of what I expect to be drilling with these hole bits is 1/8” thick or less.Note: If what is being drilled can be drilled from both sides, this bit can come at it from both sides for a 2/8” (1/4”) material thickness. It’s the larger sizes where standard drill bits aren’t so easily available where this type of step bit comes in VERY handy.I like that the hex shaft shows the min/max hole sizes of the bit, as well as showing each size next to each step of the cutters.I find no fault with these bits,The case is well built (except for having a thin plastic flap hinge instead of a real hinge).NOTE: To avoid future issues, I add loop type hook/loop adhesive band to the hinge area before it ever breaks, so if the plastic flap hinge snaps apart in very cold weather, my case is still “OK” with a better hinge.(A silicone rubber band around the case halves will work in a pinch also.)DISLIKE:Other than that case hinge, no issues. Well designed otherwise.
