Buyer beware. The magnetic base you receive is nothing like the magnetic base in the advertised pictures. See attached image

This bad boy has some serious grip. I got it to use with my table saw to hold a vacuum hose, it's perfect for the job. Box was a little bashed up but the magnet was in perfect shape.

It's actually a knob that turns and activate the magnet, and the knob turns fairly easily. If you're working around metal, it's basically an indispensable tool for keeping things at the ready. It can hold metal pieces during welding, keeps jigs stable, mount cameras, and basically just operates as a good overall large magnet that keeps things accessible. The housing is solid, then all the solid and the unit is very handy. I recommend it. Easy activation, strong hold.

This switchable machine magnet is of the highest quality. It is a tool, not a toy.It has a very solid immovable grip on a drill press or milling table and very little residual hold when switched off by the 90 deg. rotation of a knob on one of the short ends.In addition to its normal positioning it can be used on the short end opposite the control knob at lower strength and because of its bottom shape can attach very strongly to rounded surfaces such as a drill press or mill column or quill. It can also be used as a welding clamp. The 8mm threaded hole used for attaching a gauge or small tool goes completely through the outer body and the switching cylinder is visible through it so care should be taken to not interfere with the switch mechanism by using too long a bolt for attachment.

This switchable magnet base is great! It is so strong when turned on it may scare you (like when you don't realize you have something else magnetic nearby...)! While I don't currently have a large and thick enough magnetic surface to truly test its full strength, it still will cling to thin magnetic surfaces (like a stove or fridge) with enough force that you can pull them out of position using this magnetic base! Your experience may vary depending on the weight and magnetic composition of said appliances of course, but either way that hopefully helps to demonstrate just how strong it is even on less-than-suitable surfaces. The actual switching mechanism is easy to operate (whether it is magnetically attached to something or not), and it nicely comes to rest with a bit of a "snap" fully on or off just from the magnetic force itself internally. And the pre-drilled and tapped hole on the top makes it great for screwing in a lamp, a clamp, or various other tools that you can then security slap onto any magnetic surface at any orientation without fears that it will fall off.My only complaint is that it seemed like it was absolutely bathed in oil before being boxed, such that it was soaking through the box, and necessitated a wipe-down before use.Aside from that, this magnetic base has far exceeded my expectations, and is a 100% recommendation as a "must buy" if you have any sort of need for such a thing in your life!

This is a fairly basic item. The knob turns (albeit with some effort). However, I found the actual magnet weak. Even distributed over the surface, I found the overall force low. If you just need something to weakly hold everything in place, this should do. But I wouldn't rely on it for a heavy load.

Very handy tool for any machinist and mechanic. I used this as a replacement base for a similar but smaller unit I had but got stolen. It holds well when the magnetic is flipped, and provides a secure stable base for my dials to check for runout. Whether it be on my lathe, or mill. Or on my Park truing stand. It even clamps to my brake caliper to test the rotors for warpage. It functions and affordable. It arrived double-boxed and oiled to prevent rust. Standard M8 threaded hole allows for a series of attachments.

This magnet base works very well and holds onto any metal work area very well. The switch is easy to grab / turn to engage the magnet on/off. The threads were good but I still cleaned them out before first using it.Overall, it works and is good to have if you do any metal work / machining.
