I added a few tile backsplashes to my bathrooms. At first I tried a handheld tile cutter cause they were cheap. The result was wasting a lot of money on ruined tiles and money on a handheld tile cutter that ended up in the trash. This thing cut correctly and cleanly 95% of the time and is pretty easy to use, worth the money.

I don’t know if it was the tool or user error, but I couldn’t get it to cut mosaic tile correctly at all. I ruined 2 full squares of mosaic tile and gave up. It didn’t break at the center of the score marks. It was way off.

This is a "score and snap" type of cutter. It works surprisingly well for simple, straight cuts. If you need to make any "compound" cuts (where you cut a tile into an L shape to go around an outlet or vent, for example), you really need a wet tile cutter. Mind you, I was able to cut a few of my subway tiles into an L shape with this cutter, but it's not ideal: First cut the subway tile "hamburger-wise", then cut it again "hot dog-wise", then reassemble the pieces into an L shape when you mortar it to your wall or floor. The problem, of course, is that you end up with a small score across the tile where the reassembled pieces meet. With most types of tile, that score line will only be noticeable by you -- and by others who may look at your work with a more critical eye. ("Oh, look at that -- I see how you got it to fit around that outlet.")If you've never used a wet cutter, don't be afraid of them. They're crazy easy to use, but obviously a much bigger expense. (Interestingly, wet cutter blades are totally smooth, like salad plates -- no teeth, no grit, no risk of cutting your finger. They work by vibration, sorta like your sonic toothbrush.)

I would recommend this tool. You have to figure out how the tile behaves when you're cutting it. Buy a few spare tiles for sure. A quick suggestion would be to buy some cheap tile to practice with. There are $0.15 subway tiles you can buy. They're certainly not as thick as the higher quality tiles, but it does give you an idea how that cutter works with it.I was able to cut 10-in long tiles, one half inch strip off the edge by being patient. I broke four tiles before I figured out to start with the tool at the end of the tile. Then you could watch it actually split and pop off that whole half inch strip off the side of the tile.

Just tiled my kitchen. Did about 50 cuts of 9mm porcelain tiles and it was still going strong. I did double score and I got nice clean cuts, even just 2cm slivers. So nice to used compared with the electric tile saw. Top notch!

Easy set up and didn’t take too many tiles to get it to cut what I needed. I was afraid that it wouldn’t cut 1/2 in ceramic Mexican tiles (and to their credit I emailed Marshalltown to confirm if it could handle 1/2 inch and they replied to give me some help in making the experience not so frustrating.). The manual and most resources I found didn’t really say if cutting was better on the front or back of the tile but for me cutting the 1/2 inch tile worked fine (with some added careful pressure) scoring on the back of the tile and could snap the tile at either the top or the bottom of the score. Where scoring on the front of the tile did nothing. Sometime I score more than once which helps a little. The little cutter is solid but pressing hard to snap thick tiles can cause the rails to flex, otherwise it stays pretty solid. I’m confident I’ll get better and will have no problem finishing my project and that for the low price I paid, the cutter will last for a long, long time. Highly recommended!

I’ve used tile cutters for years and this one is not a quality cutter. Every other tile breaks. With all the money I wasted on broken tile I could have bought a better one. I hate to use a product then return it but I will be sending this back for sure.

I got some glass tiles that I needed to cut and lows refuse to cut them for me so I got this tool and it was so easy to use I cut about 15 tile in about 5 mins. And there was hardly any clean up after! I just scored twice and then pushed down and it snapped the tile right in half! I will definitely be using this for all of my tile projects for now on.

I'm always dubious about tile cutters but this one works really well (and I'm a rank amateur at tiling). I could even take very thin 6mm strips off the side of thin tiles with ease and didn't lose one tile out of 18 cuts. Very glad I chose this cutter, def. impressed.

Worked very well in cutting my bathroom ceramic tiles. The tiles were just 2 1/4” x 2 1/4” and I needed to cut some edge pieces in half and trim exactly 1” in some other pieces and I had no trouble at all. I was concerned that the tiles would be too small to cut.But the tiles were easily scored and snapped by the Marshalltown tile cutter. Great product and value for the money and best of all it’s made in the USA.
