I replaced the started on my 2003 Mercury 40HP ELPTO. I took it out that weekend and everything was fine. about a month later, I launched the boat, but it would not start. The starter would spin and crank briefly before the bendix would drop down. It would spin as long as I help the key on, but it would not engage the flywheel. I took it to my mechanic, who replaced it.

I purchased mercury mariner starter motor new. The starter arrived on time and was reasonably priced. I installed it on my outboard without any problems. I started the outboard numerous times and it worked as expected. I haven’t had my boat on the water with the new starter yet due to it being the off season. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone needing a replacement starter motor
