I read the other reviews here and purchased this rack for my 2005 Sequoia Limited. On the plus side, it was very well packaged, which I was concerned about after reading other reviews. It also seems solid and it fit very well.On the downside, the bushings provided would have left a very loose fit. Having read some complaints about that, I purchased a set of upgraded bushings at the time of purchase and replaced them before installing. I strongly recommend doing that if you purchase this. Removing the stock bushings was fairly simple with a hammer and suitably sized socket, and installing the upgraded ones were a snap. Overall I’m happy with this purchase.

Both inner tie rod ends broke off at inner tie rod end within 2 two months of each other and in less than one year from purchase. Each time resulted in loss of steering control of vehicle but fortunately at low speed and no conflicting traffic. POOR, POOR quality product and material. Stay safe and spend a few dollars more for a proper replacement!

I liked the price compared to everywhere else; the quality is just fine though the packaging was pathetic. UPS driver laughed at it as the rack was hanging out of the box. No damage though, somehow. The worst part was removing the 16 year old original rack and cleaning the space up to accept the nice, new rack. Once cleaned up, it was fairly easy. It feels like a different truck now and the old one was only leaking! Highly recommend this rack; just check it when it arrives to insure it's 100%

I was nervous about this purchase because of the mixed reviews. I have a 2000 Tundra with over 400,000 miles on it, and didn't want to spend $800.00 to fix it, so I decided it was worth a try. I watched a couple different youtube videos before installing and found that it was really pretty easy. I had one person helping me. We had my truck on 2 jack stands and worked on our backs in my carport. It took about 2 hours start to finish. The one problem I had was steering wheel alignment, so I had to disconnect and reconnect the steering knuckle to correct this. I removed the front tires and used a tape measure to rough align the the rotors after installing the steering rack. None of the youtube videos I watched explained how to do this, so there may be a better way. This has been installed in my truck for 9 months now and driven 50-100 miles most every day. I have had no problems whatsoever.

If you want the meat and potatoes right off the bat, I’ll just tell you that you will be much better off passing on this part for multiple reasons. The main one being that you are more than likely going to have to replace this part sooner than you expect. It lasted only a week in my truck, while it sat waiting for a remanufactured rack from another online parts retailer. So now down to the gravy.First off, the packaging. Buy Auto Parts doesn’t even try to package this rack and pinion properly. A TSA agent would do a better job stuffing this back into your carry-on. The boxes, yes that’s right boxes as in plural, are just 12”x18” boxes that are stacked and taped together to cover the length of the part. Furthermore, the part is not even secured to the cardboard, so it moves all over the place. The only thing keeping it in place is its own weight. Expect holes on both ends of the boxes from the inner tie rods ends and bent/damaged lines.Second, the design. One thing that you might not notice until you install the part, and if you are like me and have a 4WD truck, is that the hydraulic lines on the rack are way to close to the front axle drive shaft. I’m taking fractions of an inch close. The original design has the lines going about 2-3 inches under the driveshaft. This is because when 4WD is engaged the drive shaft is rotating and flexing up and down when you go over uneven surfaces. Although I did not put this into practice, I wouldn’t be surprised to find the rack lines damaged after a couple thousands of miles.Third, the quality/craftsmanship. So let’s assume you’ve read up until this point and you might be thinking, oh well the box issue won’t happen to me and I have a 2WD truck so why do I care what this guy has to say. Right. After I installed this rack and pinion I actually had a leak on the pressure line. There’s two things this rack does not come with; new o-rings for the hydraulic lines and the dust cover. Eventually, I re-used the old o-rings and was able to get a good seal. I also reused the old dust cover, so I moved on to bleed the system only to find out that the valve inside the rack had taken an indefinite leave of absence somewhere along the way. While turning the steering wheel lock to lock to bleed the system, with the tires in the air, the steering wheel would begin to shake uncontrollably, I mean killing the engine to stop it, uncontrollably. I called Buy Auto Parts and they confirmed, that yes the rack and pinion was in fact defective. Their solution was for them to send me a replacement in about 5 business days. Since I was not happy with the results they had provided so far, I decided to do a little bit more research and ended up getting a remanufactured rack from another mfg.In conclusion, the only thing attractive about this part is its price but there are some drawbacks there too. When you think a little bit more about how/why is this part so cheap, you really can only deduce it to cheap material and labor. For comparison the remanufactured rack I purchased was $250, and that is with me given them my core (old part). This new rack is even less then that so you can make your own assumptions. Additionally, you will incur more expenses, both monetary and timely, if you have to replace this part like I did. Thankfully, I was able to do the work myself but if you had bought this part and taken it to a shop to be installed, they would have charged you twice for the labor, since they warranty their labor not the part.Save yourself from all the turmoil you might endure with this purchase and keep looking.

Unbelievable value. Works perfectly and mechanic was amazed at the price. He also confirmed that it appears to be new, and not remanufactured. 1000 saved over the dealer price

I found this online and thought that it seemed way too cheap to be a good part. I looked at all of the local parts stores and it was $160 more at all of those stores in comparison to the Amazon price. I decided to give it a go, and I am very happy with the result. One complaint I would have is that the O-rings for the power steering lines feeding into the rack are not provided whereas with most other versions of this part in local auto stores they are. The O-rings were not easy to find either. I decided to try reuse the old O-rings and if there was a leak I'd replace them. Fortunately there was no leak, but if you needed new versions of those you'd have to search a bit. I suppose you might be able to take the old ones down to the local hardware store and compare them to sizes on the shelf to find replacements though. Overall this is a great buy at the price and works just great!
