The 'Norpro 1-Quart Steamer' is my salvation. It is because without a wife, I was lost in an ocean which I know nothing about: cooking. The size is appropriate for one or two people. It fits all the vegetables a single person or a couple may eat in one meal. The single guy may include a steak of fish. The following are two secrets I stole from my ex French wife: A) In a round bowl, she mixed all vegetables with Olive Oil and Herbs de Provence [no spices but herbs] before starting the steamer. She let the vegetables in the bowl for a while. B) She never used water but BEEF BROTH to steam veggies. That particular broth and the herbs add a taste that plain water cannot provide, and the nutrients from the oil and herbs add to the nutrients from vegetables and fish. All in all, if you are single or just a couple, this 'Norpro Steamer' is all you need to easily prepare healthy vegetables and fish.I have a word of warning not to be ignored, however. This appliance looks good and it fills your eyes, but it is made of very thin and light weight material. So much so that the Manufacturer & Seller insist to not place it inside an oven and to not let it run dry. They know why: the thin metal will melt! Should you treat and use this steamer correctly, it will serve you well.In my case, this 'Norpro Steamer' is my salvation easily giving me tasty and healthful veggies and fish; but if I want heavenly delicious meals, another French wife is better.

I love to steam vegetables, but the two steamers I have (both very nice) are huge. This little gem is the perfect size for a moderate serving of vegetables, or for a single person who doesn't want to heat up a giant steamer. It is lighter weight than my All-Clad cookware (I have the 5-ply Copper Core), so it heats up a bit slower, but it's plenty sturdy enough to do the job well, and it is easy handle and to store.I noticed some reviewers mentioned needing to watch the water level so it wouldn't evaporate before things were steamed. I paid attention to that, but I did not have any trouble at all. There's plenty of clearance between the bottom of the steamer and the bottom of the base pan to put a good amount of water. As some mentioned, there's a teeny vent hole on the glass lid, which helps keep the pan from bubbling over (I assume). The steamer part doesn't fit "snugly" on the base, but it sits evenly and well enough to do a good job.I'm very happy with this purchase - it's a perfect solution for me when I want a healthy way to prepare a smaller amount of food.FYI - I ordered mine through one of the sellers that offered it for a bit less - it was a few dollars cheaper and still came with free shipping. The item was new when it arrived, and although the seller mentioned there might be damage to the box it came in, the box was also fine. I wasn't sure I'd like it, and after using it I can say I''d happily have paid full price if that was the only option.

I bought this steamer at first because I was looking for a small steamer to make my baby food. It worked great. After over a year of usage it is still being used. We use it every day. I use it to steam my daughter's vegetables (she's now a toddler)and my husband and I use it for our own steaming of vegetables at dinner time. Now, why 5 stars???I once steamed carrots and left them on the stove for too long. The water evaporated and my carrots and the pot burnt. Everything was black. I thought I had ruined the pot, but I was able to clean it so well that it looks like it never happened. The steamer to say the least has held well. So here are the overall stats.Pros:Easy to cleanSize perfect to cook baby foodSize works great for at least 2-3 serving size.Quality materialStores wellHolds up to every day useGlass lid let's you see when food is doneCons:To be objective, I will say, that the bottom portion of the steamer does stain somewhat on the outside, which makes me think that perhaps is not 18/10 all the way. This doesn't bother me because the inside does stay nice, clean and shiny. The top steamer portion does not have this problem. It has kept its stainless luster. The lid has held shiny and clean as well.Overall, if you are looking for a mini steamer this one won't let you down.

This definitely deserves a 5 star, I think.I needed a steaming pot so I thought I would give this a try. I was glad I did. This little pot and steaming basket are beautifully made and finished. It almost looks like a piece of jewelry. The lid appears to be made mostly of glass. There is a little metal vent in the top of the lid to allow steam to escape. There is a round handle and spacer attached to the top of the lid. All parts of this little steaming pot appear to be very high quality. This little pot will cook up enough vegetables for two people within about ten minutes. For instance, a large helping of carrot coins are cooked tender within about 10 minutes of starting time. You can let the water heat up while you are cutting the vegetables and that will speed things up a little bit too.If there is any flaw in the product at all, it would be that water can get into the handle assembly in the lid. However, this can be easily drained out and it should never get into the food anyway. There is a phillips screw inside the lid with a white rubber-like seal around the screw. That screw goes through into the handle on top of the lid to hold the handle on. This white rubber-like seal would prevent any dish water that might be trapped in the handle from dripping through into the pot and onto any food inside.I think the water problem can be avoided just by not keeping the lid under water. Just wash the lid top and bottom with a wash cloth and dish water and then rinse it under the faucet. I don't really consider this to be much of a problem at all.
