I tried to cut through a 2" mild-steel tube. I never got the job done. The first 5 cutting wheels broke and made a mess of the pipe. I didn't abuse the tool, it just fell apart. Once the wheels break, the tool is useless. The cutting wheels are much too brittle to be of any use. The tools looks identical to the much cheaper Chinese version that are sold here.

I used this to cut a section off the OEM exhaust on a 30yr old RV, I needed clean lines because I wanted to reuse it as an extension on a new stainless exhaust system. I cleaned up the rust with a wire wheel first to give it a smooth surface. At first it was a challenge to get all of the cutting wheels to follow the same 'track', if they aren't then they'll be jumping from one groove to the next and they'll eventually chip. So you put your zip-tie on it and put very light pressure while going all the way around (if possible) until you get the groove started and all of the wheels following the same groove, once they're doing that you don't need to go all the way around anymore, and you just add a couple of clicks of tension now and then with the zip tie until it's through. So far it's still sharp and no chips, yet.

Only thing that cuts pipe straighter and faster is a motorized metal band saw, and I don't have one of those. This pipe cutter is definitely a hand tool and is old school, but it is still very effective and efficient for me. I used to have one twenty or thirty years ago but lost it during a move to a new house, or someone who borrowed it forgot to bring it back. Anyway, this new one works well and allows me to cut three-inch pipe without much effort, at least with minimal effort for this sort of thing. The cuts are relatively burr-free and easily dressed to allow proper fitment and use without cutting your hands or getting it stuck inside another pipe or silicone sleeve for proper joining.

I bought this item to use as a close quarters pipe cutter for rigid copper. Close quarter cutters are readily available for 1" pipe and below, but anything larger that 1" is very expensive. When sweating fittings onto copper pipe, the cut ends must be straight smooth and free of burrs. Any burrs left behind by the pipe cutter are smoothed using deburring tools. These tools also put a chamfer on the inside and outside of the pipe. I fully expected this tool to leave the the cut end of the pipe in poor condition and difficult to deburr. To my surprise the cut was almost as good as if I had used the pipe cutter. In full disclosure I did start the cut using a pipe cutter to score a portion of the pipe by rocking the cutter back and forth as far as possible in the tight space. I did this to help ensure the cut would be perpendicular with the pipe. I then placed the tail pipe cutter in the groove left by the pipe cutter and finished the cut. This certainly beats using a hacksaw and leaving the end of the pipe rough and difficult to prep for sweating.

It will work, but the rollers are fairly dull, you really have to work on the placement or it cuts diagonally. If you want a tool thats a good price and will work, here ya go! If you're planning on using this to make money, not for you...

Used it to cut out the flexible part of my muffler that had failed. Worked great I used some old oil for lubricant. 2006 Ford Escape. Cannot cut tight to barrriers welded on etc the side pins will keep the cut roughly 3/8” to the side of a barrier.

It is perhaps unfair to post this low score for the tool because I did not use it for the intended purpose. I did not cut a tailpipe or even a metal pipe. However, a similar tool on Amazon was put the same use, to cut PVC pipe and that one, much more expensive DID apparently work for someone. I thought therefore I would take a chance with this one.The cutting wheels are not sharp. If they were one would be cutting ones fingers as they place the tool. But because they are not sharp, they do not sink into the PVC at the looser of two possible positions and therefore just "score" it. Perhaps that works fine for metal because then you can snap on the score lines but it doesn't work for PVC which doesn't snap. At the more tight position, it just crushes the PVC and does not cut in/through. SO DON"T USE THIS for PVC. But I can see how some people had poor results even for tail pipe, since this thing clearly doesn't "cut" it "scores".

Did not work for me. I was cutting exhaust tailpipes on a BMW 328ix to install new exhaust tips and this tool barely made a dent. I ended up using a reciprocating saw. Also, the red handle covers/cushions slide off as you are using the tool. I ended up having to wrap the handles with gaffer's tape to keep the covers from sliding off and to be able to adequately grip the tool. I have used similar tools in the past for exhaust work and they have worked in the past but this one is just not heavy duty enough.

I’m an electrician and used this to cut some EMT conduit that already had wire pulled in it. Replaced a panel but needed to shorten conduit about an inch to get enough room for the new panel. Was able to cut a combination of 3/4” and 1” conduit without hurting the wire inside. It does leave a sharp edge on the inside that I used a plumbers reaming tool to knock off so the wires wouldn’t get cut.Worked great for the job and fit between the tight spaces between the conduits. Saved lots of time from having to pull out the wire in each conduit and repulling.

I needed a tool to "shorten" a couple of 8' livestock gates. A normal pipe cutter was too big, as it had to swing around between the bars/tubes of the gate. So I discovered this tool, which is designed to squarely cut thin gauge pipe in close quarters. I was a bit worried, as some other reviews said the cutter wheels got dull quickly. I didn't find that at all. I made 24 cuts (2 gates) on 1 3/4" pipe as I had to remove about a 1 foot section of pipe on each bar, then rejoin the gate parts back together. I just dripped some oil on the cutter as I was working it back and forth about a 1/2 turn each time. Cut each piece of pipe in about 8 or so motions. It is still sharp to this day. It works just great. I think it is designed only for thin wall tubing or pipe, so don't expect it to cut through thicker gauge steel. It might, didn't try that. Don't hesitate to get this tool if it will fit your bill. You might consider getting a tailpipe expander or that steel cone tool to fix any imperfections in your cut. But if you are careful, it does not deform the pipe, and you might just take a file to remove the burr. Great tool!
