I purchased this kit based on web wisdom. Yes, it cost significantly more than competing units. However, it made quick work of pressing out the old joints (2010 Ford Ranger). Installing new joints required a bit of improvising, as the C-frame was about 1/8 inch too short for the full stack-up. Once we got the joint started, we could use the tool pieces as intended, no more improvising required. We were impressed with the build quality and ease of use.

That one bent the first time I used it. This is definitely better quality.

I got this to replace my cheaper set. The cheaper ones forcing screw was a bit loose. The forcing screw on this one is much tighter which should result in straighter pressing.

I previously bought one of the cheaper, more popular versions of this tool on Amazon. It worked ok a few times, but bent when I used it on my Silverado truck. I debated whether or not the extra money meant this was better or not, but took a chance since it's American made. Wow! the ball joint I struggled with and ultimately broke the old tool on - this tool removed it in 30 seconds! It might look similar to the other tools, but it is not. It's definitely stronger - no flex at all. The metal is noticeably different and heavier. I would have saved money and time if I had just bought this one in the first place. Buy this one - it's worth the extra money.

I bought this kit for removing and installing U-joints in my propshafts. The C-shape tool is the right tool for the job making removing and installing U-joints a breeze compared to my previous attempts of using hammer and punches. Money well spent.

There are a lot of cheap kits for sale, along with many complaints of the pieces breaking or bending during use. Save your money! They might look good and may have plenty of adapters, but if the tool breaks half-way through a job, where does that leave you?I have a 1997 Chevrolet C1500 with 209,000 miles and I used this tool to replace the original lower ball joints. After twenty-four years and that many miles, they really didn’t want to budge. A cheaper tool would have failed! This OTC tool had the necessary adapters and did the job nicely – no breaking or distorting adapters. The “C-clamp,” as I call it, that came with this kit is very heavy and will not break.A few things that make installation a little easier – I cleaned the control arm with a small wire wheel and followed up with solvent to remove any debris. Next, lubricate the mating surface with grease to help with installation. Last, I put the ball joints in the freezer overnight – this will cause the metal to contract a few thousandths of an inch allowing them to go in easier.Either way, don’t use one of the bargain kits! Granted this is a few more dollars and you may need to purchase other vehicle-specific adapters, but as the old saying goes, “If you buy right the first time, you only cry once!” And did I mention that it is made in the USA?

I’ve done several front end jobs with this now . Everything from 1ton ford cans to 4x4 trucks and 2wd expeditions . This tool is tough ! The 1ton van is a1994 Uhaul box truck with over 200k miles on it and the parts were really rusted in. This tool took everything apart. I also bought to go with it a master adapter kit from HarborFreight tools that works perfectly with this tool. I actually use the pin adapter from HarborFreight in the otc clamp because I think the flat end adapter works better than the pointed one. Don’t loose the ball! Just take it out and put it in your box for later. This tool also works for brakes and u joints and pressing out control arm bushings. This is one of the best additions to my tool box. I shopped around a lot for the right clamp and did not want a cheap aluminum one. This is American forged steel and is a big heavy tool that you don’t have to worry about breaking.I always get nervous when I see bad reviews on a tool and I don’t mind spending good money to get a tool if it’s really worth it. What I’ve discovered from buying thousands of dollars worth of stuff is that a lot of the bad reviews are written by people who really don’t know how to use a tool properly, and or they expect a tool to be indestructible. I’m 50 years old and have been working on cars trucks airplanes and motorcycles, boats , construction equipment ect. Since I was 13. All tools can be broken. I have snap on, matco, proto, Cornwall, craftsmen, and a bunch of other brands. Some are cheap like HarborFreight because for their use it doesn’t matter. Other things like this clamp has to be the very best and that’s exactly what I got , the best. I have no complaints with OTC tools to date and I have a bunch of their stuff.

I just pulled the ball joints off of the driver's side on our 2010 Jeep Wrangler with this tool. I saw many conflicting reports on the origin of this tool. The set that I received is in large cast letters, Made in USA. Like most of you that complained about the made in China thing. Just remember that the corporations that don't care about workers, even our country, they are loyal only to the dollar, they don't really care about the end user either. But hold onto your backside, because it won't be long and you won't even be able to buy a car assembled in the USA, they will all be built in Mexico. That out of the way, the main part of this tool is made in our country, hooray ! It has a really nice shiny finish and the way I pulled on it, you won't have to worry about it breaking. I also purchased the OTC 7894 Jeep / Dodge Ball Joint Set, and it worked like a charm, but , unfortunately, they were made in China. Update, I used this tool along with the Jeep / Dodge adapter to install the ball joints and it worked perfectly. This thing is stout. when installing the Synergy Ball Joints, I had to really pull hard on this tool. I found that a box end wrench worked best. I had to fight each pull, until the ball joint was fully seated. With the Jeep/ Doge adapters you have to pay attention to the orientation of the removal and install cups, as they are not square, but tapered to accommodate the angle. Beats using washers as one needs to do if you don't have the adapters.
