What Is a Pet Dental Scaler? A Pet dental scaler is the tool a Veterinary dentist uses to scrape the plaque and tartar off the animal’s teeth. It’s a metal hand tool with an end shaped like a curved or hooked blade. This is a super important to keep your pets hygienic and safe from cavities. Get a feel of this cool device and how it balances. Look very closely at your pet’s teeth. Find the visible stains and any tiny debris left over from flossing. Once you find a stain, place the tip of the scaler against the tooth at the gumline. Slide the scaler away from the gum line and note any roughness along the surface of the tooth. This will be when the scaler catches on the surface — this could means your pet has tartar. Continue to use this method for scraping every tooth with plaque and tartar buildup. Each tooth you scraped should have a smooth feel to it. Once you’re done, rinse the scaler under the faucet and wash with soap or some other disinfectant. Dry it well and store it away safely

I came across this scaler doing a research on google how to remove tartar from your fog teeth in a safe manner. I have to say I am impressed how this scaler works wonders. The vet suggested that my doggie needed a deep cleaning , got an estimate for about $ 1000. I cannot believe how this tool with a little patience and, dexterity, made my dog' s teeth basically brand new. Definitely reccomend it

My dog had some plaque accumulation from the days when it was hard to brush her teeth (among other grooming challenges). We have since worked a LOT on cooperative care training for her to voluntarily participate in her care, so I am writing this review for a dog who is trained for tooth brushing. That little bit of plaque that accumulated while brushing her teeth was hard was bothering me—vet said it wasn’t bad enough to be professionally cleaned, but it also wasn’t going to come off with a toothbrush and enzymatic toothpaste. This tool worked like a charm! Yes, my dog held very still and was not scared due to our work together on stress-free grooming, but I thanks to that this tool was able to beautifully remove any last trace of plaque all the way to the gum line. Since her gums are healthy, this tool was able to reach gingerly under her gum flap. Again, this is with a very steady hand, good eyesight, and a still dog. Highly recommend the tool, but please be careful when you use it! Don’t push your dog, please.

This tool can remove brown plaque from my dog’s teeth. But this tool is hard to use with it being too long to feel like you have good control while holding a squirmy dog still. After a few attempts of plaque removal, I’ve decided I’ll leave that to the professionals and work on daily teeth brushing instead.

What a great tool! Sturdy, nicely curved tips for easy use & easy to hold, doesn't slide around in your hand if you have a squirmy dog. I have 3 Maltese & they don't seem to mind this tool at all. I clean it with an alcohol swab after each use. Highly recommend it, great value for money!

We purchased this product to clean our poodle's teeth that have a build-up of tartar even though we brush his teeth twice a week. I think it would work better on a larger dog. Our guy, who is a size of a very large cat, just doesn't like anything sharp or hard against his teeth. Perhaps it will work on your dog. At first it's a bit scary to use honestly, you'll get worried about hurting your pet, I bought the product with some doughts. First day I used it I was being very careful trying to get used to the tool as well as allowing my Border Collies to get used to it. On the 2nd time using it both myself and my dogs were more comfortable. If you have noticed some build up or strong odor coming from your pets mouth I always recommend seeing your vet. I choose not to visit my vet cause I felt confident that I can address my dogs tartar build up, I strongly recommend using dog tooth paste and Arm and hammer gum sensitive tooth paste, to help loosen and soften up the tartar. This tool works perfectly, I gently get the tool underneath the gum line and with a ferm push down away from the gum line, making sure I am latched onto the tartar and it makes a uncomfortable sound but the chuck of tartar came right off. I stop after this and applied dog tooth paste to insure my dog isn't uncomfortable with me using the tool. It will take time and I recommend doing a tooth at a time. It pays off, I was honestly had my doughts that the tool would work. But once I successfully and pain freely removed a chunk of tartar off my 9 year old BC I felt instant relief. My does tooth is very healthy underneath the tartar, it's super white and I was worried my dog tooth was going to be rotten. But it was just the nasty smelling tartar build up. I'll strongly recommend buying this tool if you have the patience to work one tooth at a time. If you are in a rush to clean your pets mouth just take them to a Vet. But I'm so relieved to know this tool does work.

So I have a 9 year old husky Sheppard cross. The vet said he had great teeth for his age, but he did clean off some brown tartar on his fangs with one of these tools. He said I could use a penny instead but since I'm no expert, I didn't want to be fishing around in my dogs mouth with something he could potentially choke on. I came across this instead. Excellent price! I tried it already and it worked - very happy with my purchase! My only complaint is that the plastic sheath for storing it got damaged in the mail. It looks like the end of the scaler punctured and ripped the plastic sleeve, so I can't store it in there anymore. But that is minor.

I was in the business of trying to figure out what I needed to do to remove my dogs tarter mostly located around the back teeth. When I was looking at gels, bushes, rinses, and sorts... I stumble on this little tool that had great reviews. The first thing I realized was that it was very cheap, at around $7 each! It was then I said, why the heck not? its only $7 if you had a job, you could skip lunch for a day for it. Not really a big deal. After receiving the product, I noticed was that it felt very solid and sturdy. I couldn't wait to try it out on my boxer/lab mix of a dog. The edge on the scaler is sharp enough to the hair on my dogs teeth if pressed a bit. This is plenty sharp. I don't understand why some people say its very dull. You don't need this tool to be as sharp as a razor for getting tarter out, you don't want to make a mistake and have your dogs gums bleed all over the place. So, I started off on his worst tooth, the one on the very back. Going slowly and taking my time.. It actually takes a bit of force to get the tarter to pop off. You have to angle the scaler quite bit to find the right angle to scrape off the remaining tarter. I was really amazed by how clean his tooth looked afterward! Took me like 5 minutes on his largest tooth. I'm very glad my dog is very obedient and understanding when it comes to me doing things to him. Now, if you have an dog that don't have stronger gums holding the teeth in place then I would advise you to be cautious. It does take a bit of force to get the tarter out, some dogs teeth can also be very sensitive. Also, this scaler wouldn't be good for dogs that get really edgy, and wont let you poke around in their mouth. Though this can be solved with some treats and patience, Haha. The Conclusion: I would say this is a must have for any dog owner to help keep gums healthy and away from tarter. YOU STILL need to get your dogs teeth professionally cleaned! But it will just be less often because this product really works. I will upload some pictures of a before and after! Thanks for reading! Also, don't forget to let me know if this was helpful.
