The review from MdRon is very helpful, so read that. I have a 3/4" threaded nipple extending from the wall 1" and had a successful install. I've included a photo of the backside of the spout, showing the larger white interior piece that enables this spout to accommodate threaded nipples that extend from about 1/2" to 1 3/8" from the wall. It's threaded on both ends so if you have a longer nipple it will just screw itself deeper into the spout. The black piece can be used for 1/2" nipples or not used for 3/4" nipples. Like MdRon I found I had to use plumber's tape on my (old) threaded nipple to keep it from leaking. It's now all installed with no leaks and feels very sturdy.I'm deducting a star for the lack of decent instructions or specs.

Very easy to install. Nice, functional replacement spout. Fair value.

Followed the limited instructions on the packaging and made repeated attempts to attach the spout to the pipe but could not get a connection that did not leak when in shower mode. It's not an old fashioned metal threaded connection but some kind of engineered plastic connection designed to allow for different lengths of pipe coming from the wall. Good idea but in my case it didn't work at all.

The instructions on the "adjustable" nature of this item were non-existent. I emailed the manufacturer directly (did not get a reply) and also posted a question here on Amazon, which someone was kind enough to answer today. Unfortunately I tried to install it last weekend, and apparently my pipe extend farther than this spout will accommodate. The problem is, when I unscrewed it to remove, only the outer sleeve came off and the plastic inner is now stuck on my pipe. Based on the overall size of the spout and the position of the diverter, this product should have fit my pipe length, but because the inner workings were hidden by the adjustable portion, I couldn't see that the inside portion of the plastic fitting extended more than halfway toward the wall side of the unit.

I give 5 stars for the spout, 3 stars for the instructions, hence a 4 star review. This particular spout is for a nipple (the pipe coming out of the shower wall) that has threads on it, and extends from the wall no further than 1 and 3/8" maximum, according to a plumbing supply website. The nipple on mine extended 1 inch from the wall, has threads, so it was perfect for this spout. Also, on this plumbing supply website, it says an adjustable spout like this will adjust back and forth about 1 inch, so I'm guessing that pipe nipple threads extending a half inch from the wall should work. This spout will fit onto a 1/2" or 3/4" diameter nipple. The fitting piece is 3/4" and comes with a 1/2" adapter bushing.Regarding the instructions, they aren't very informative IMO.They say not to use any pipe thread dope or sealant on the pipe nipple, so I just screwed everything on, and it leaked all over the place.I tried again, using plumber's tape (PTFE tape) on the pipe nipple threads and on the 1/2" adapter bushing as well, and that did the trick. No leaks whatsoever. And it works perfect.
