This is great to learn the finger positions of notes and getting good at learning to play guitar. Not a guitar, it's a tool to learn guitar notes then take what you've learned and pick up a real guitar and you'll be amazed what you've learned.

The product description shows a hex key wrench, and it does indeed come with one. But it's useless. You can't actually tighten or loosen the strings. So the tension on the strings is all wrong. And as another reviewer mentioned, there are only two string weights rather than six.Taken together, there simply aren't the usual tactile cues for a beginner. You'd be better off just slapping some rubber bands onto a slim piece of cardboard and practicing your chord formations with that.

Great idea, but absolutely terrible execution. Unless someone wants to use this for just the most absolute basic finger exercises on the go, it seems to me that this device would almost be a detriment to newer players. The unit is so light that it is hard to get any kind of leverage/stability on the "neck" when holding it. The strings are atrocious. Not only do the 2 light strings loosen constantly, but the strings just feel very wrong whereas there are 4 heavy strings and 2 light, (as opposed to 6 different string weights on a standard guitar). Sure, you could switch out to your own strings, but there's no reason to waste another $5-6 on a good set of strings for something so shoddy. The frets on the sides of the neck are not smooth and can snag your fingers, and the wood for the neck feels cheap and uncomfortable. The plastic cover that slides back to reveal the neck is very cheap and hard to open and close without feeling like the whole unit is going to fall apart, (it does not slide smoothly, so you have to wrestle with it to open it and strong-arm it a bit to close it).Avoid this at all costs. Wanting to practice on the go is awesome, but there are better alternatives. Do yourself a favor by getting something like a Shredneck practice fret, (also sold on Amazon). Yeah, they can be in the $60-90 range, but you get what you pay for, and you can use it for years and have a much more realistic practice experience.

I just started to,learn to play and one of the problems was getting my finger tips used to the metal strings. I use this when I’m sitting and watching tv. It helps with toughen my finger tips and also helps with cord changes.

I hoped this would help maintain my hand strength while I was away from my guitar. I believe this is the "updated" version. The strings are not very tight nor high-quality out of the box (you'd have to buy new ones and cut them down to size, which might help) so the tension doesn't match an actual guitar as-is. It's fairly useful to get a grip switching between chord shapes and scales because the cover telescopes down to let you steady the neck with your other hand. Obviously its not a full neck or even full-size compared to my Telecaster, so you can only practice shapes in one place. I do think it is accurately portrayed, but I found a hand-grip exerciser to be more functional, compact and useful overall.

Exactly what it looks like. No, it doesnt "make sound"/cant strum the strings, or adjust the strings as it looks in the pictures. The screws are just so that you can replace the strings not to change the pitch. Its just a plastic case/slider but it does have "real" guitar strings. Good to practice fingering/chord memorization. Real solid wood/good 'neck' but cheap plastic feels breakable. For 15$ I'm glad I bought it.

It was a nice gift but not really for playing, more hand practicing.

Just started taking guitar lessons, and I was looking for extra tool to help me learn chords, fingering positions, and being comfortable with the fret board in general. This has been a great addition that helps me practice all those things, especially when I'm traveling when I don't have my guitar with me or late at night when I don't want to disturb the household on my guitar. The frets resemble the ones on my guitar in terms of spacing and string tension, so very nicely done there. It's no substitute for needing to practice on the guitar itself -- it's one thing to practice chords and another to finger them and transition from one to another while picking or strumming and needing to keep up with the music. But it's still a very helpful tool to pick up for a few minutes and work on muscle memory.
