Power Pro 47877 Lag Screws, 5/16" x 4", Star Drive Construction Lag Screws, Rust Resistant, Ceramic Coated Bronze, 5lb Tub, 100 pcs
From the Manufacturer
This products has features that are both impressive and unique. Topping the list is the new "Star Drive" technology which virtually eliminates camout for a smooth, effortless drive every time. Chances for splitting wood are greatly reduced by the patented cross-cut threads and the wood biting cut point. These two features combine to prevent wood splitting by grinding wood and removing fibers from the hole.

I used the Power Pro 47877 Lag Screws to screw down plywood for a roof, and guess what? They worked! The roof didn’t fly off, which, in my book, is a major win. The star drive made installation easy, and they bit into the wood like a champ. Will they rust? Honestly, I don’t think so—they look and feel like they’re built to last. But hey, even if they do, the roof’s still up there, so mission accomplished. If you need reliable screws that won’t let you (or your roof) down, these are the way to go.

Difficult to start screw into wood so needed to predrill hole to get screw to go in. Once I started doing that it worked great, just a pain to do the extra step

I saw a YouTube video of some carpenter construction workers using these and I decided to give them a try instead of us8ng the old style galvanized bolts that I used 30 years ago. I'm very happy with the solid mounting and the ease of use. These measure 5/16" at three shank...I used 6 screws in place of the two old 3/8" bolts...very very solid! I hope the last! Seem to be made of the same material as basic deck screws but just bigger and longer...I screwed them into 4x4 posts that were cut down to about 2" thick and also counter sunk to about just under 2" of grip length. (4-1/2" overall length...so plenty of threads to grab.

The screws are heavy and well-made. I used these in both PT Pine and Oak without stripping a single screw head or having a screw break. The threads are aggressive, which speeds up the work but make sure you have a good heavy-duty impact wrench if you are using them in hardwood.

Got these after they dropped price and they were a real bargain for what I needed. Used them to hang vinyl/plastic shutters on our home after the silly plastic anchors failed. The 4" length was needed because the previous homeowners placed 1" foam under the vinyl siding they installed. The shutter, siding, and foam panels combined to ~2.75" of thickness so I thought that a 4" screw would be perfect to bite into the original wood siding. Since our shutters are painted black, I stuck the screws into a big piece of cardboard and then spray painted them with several coats. Rehanging our shutters allowed me to get them aligned better and now I have no doubt that they will remain in place until myself or the next owner chooses to remove them; which will be easy since they are just massive screws. A point of caution, beware of wasps and hornets when removing shutters or other siding from your home. I found two nests and thankfully was able to spray them with foaming insecticide. Not much fun when you're high up on a ladder where all your neighbors can judge you. Finally, I recognize that these were overkill for shutters, but they provided the large button-head look that my wife liked, and I ended up with quite a few extra that will be used for more appropriate construction projects in the future.

These are EXCELLENT. We are building horse stables with true wood straight from the saw mill that measure exactly 2 x 6 inches going into 6 x 6 inch poles. We pre-drill the 2 x 6 and let the lag screw eat it’s way into the 6 x 6 for the other 2 inches. They HOLD those 2 x 6’s great, and look really nice. Each 12 foot treated non-arsenic 2 x 6 weight 40 lbs. The truss head on the screws holds perfect.

Used these to build a bunk bed for my daughters. Drove in great with the supplied bit. I tested a few in scrap without pilot holes and they drove in very well. If you are within a couple inches of end grain I would recommend a pilot hole. Personally I drilled pilot holes for every one just to be safe. They are kind of a golden bronze color and matched well with the opaque whitewash stain my daughters picked.
