I recently received this stud finder and I needed to use it right away. I was very happy with it. I found the instructions clear and easy to follow, and I was able to use it quickly and easily. It was also easy to hang my television on the wall. For the price, this stud finder was a good value. I would recommend it to anyone.

Has 3 basic search functions: wood studs, metal pieces, AC electrical wires.Wood studs: works very, very well. Tested it on a wall that had drywall on one side and open on the other. The "center" indication was within about 1/8" of my measurements. I have very good confidence in the accuracy and will be using it in the future. Pleased to retire my prior electronic stud finder, which was a guessing effort.Metal: I don't currently have a test bed for this function.AC electrical: Gotta pull one star off the rating for this one. It is supposed to auto calibrate. The device shows positive for every spot on the wall. OK, so manually calibrate. Same result. As soon as I touch a wall, anywhere it shows an alert. Something is amiss. perhaps a unit failure? It requires a 9vdc battery. Uggggg. They discharge fastest when not use. Why isn't this product designed to be recharged? USB-C has a 12vdc rail. Seems simple enough. Let's use fewer disposable batteries. There goes the 2nd star.Bottom line ... I will use it but not for AC wires. And I want a rechargeable solution.

This was too complicated to use and you had to recalibrate it every time. I'm sure a contractor could use it but its not a tool for a non contractor.

I ordered this item because I've been needing a proper stud finder for a long time, and having one that finds electrical wires in walls is a huge bonus. The finder itself seems to work well. You put it on the wall, hold the button on the side and wait until it beeps to let you know it's calibrated and ready to go. Sweep slowly left to right and it does well finding the studs in the wall behind the drywall. I've also tried this on a section of wall in my garage that has 5/8" drywall over a layer of OSB, and it still finds the studs (the initial calibration seems to work well so long as you actually keep it against the wall!).In searching for live electric lines, I've found that it does indeed find the wires, but it also sometimes indicates possible wires (although it's not indicating it's 100% over one) in areas that don't have wires (this is a year old build, and I have rough-in photos to confirm there's nothing in some of these areas.)I believe the oversensitivity is either it picking up the screws in the drywall, or possibly just it picking up noise from electrical running further down in the stud bay. For the most part, I'm seeing this when I'm within a foot or so of a horizontal run. Moving more slowly also significantly decreases this effect, so technique may have a lot to do with it. That said, if I'm going to drill or cut near where it goes off, I'll go around the area and insure it's a false positive before proceeding with care.Overall, I'm pretty happy with this stud finder. It's not perfect, and there's certainly better out there for more money, but for the price is does well enough.
