Installation of this strike strengthens a locked door with four 2 in. long screws that attach to the jack/trimmer stud to help prevent kick-ins. Some mortising and pilot hole drilling may be required for flush install.

Very affordable, and a no-brainer choice for upgrading security. Standard residential door hardware isn't very sturdy, and can make a door easy to force open with a blow that cracks the door jamb. You will have to enlarge the mortise to install this, but there are lots ov youtube videos that show simple steps for doing that. This is s good sturdy piece of hardware that works well, but i knocked off a review star because it really should come with longer and stronger screws. eellsplitting the

Installation requires a wood chisel, hammer, drill and screwdriver. I didn't use the included screws, instead I replaced them with something much stronger from the local hardware store. For 90 minutes of your time you'll have a greatly reinforced door.

Real good strike. Decently thick metal, good finish, correct length long screws, and a great price right now at $3.00.It is longer than most other strikes, so you will probably need to chisel out the frame a little more than you're used to. Also the depth is fixed, so you might need to adjust that too.

This is a great and recommended by many security professionals as a strengthening measure for the door / frame interface. Drill out your solid wood door frame only to the specific size required so that this is almost a tight fit then mount with graded stainless 3" wood screws. and as long as you have a high quality deadbolt lock and solid front door, no one is breaching through this. Great product.

Compare to the standard strike plate included with door lever or deadbolt, this security strike box provide a lot more safety. Not only your latch or deadbolt now sits in a metal box, which offers more strength behind the door jamb, but you can use two 3.5-in screws to fix the box itself to the 2x4 or 2x6 or what ever rough you have behind the door jamb.We have installed a dozen of those strike boxes in our house. They provide real extra security. Please note that for real extra security, after installing this strike box, you need to reinforce your door jamb with a steel plate.Note : If you can put your hands on a Medeco strike box (like the one included with their Maxum deadbolt), the design is even better in regards of how the two long security screws go in the back of the strike box.If you liked my review please hit the "HELPFUL" button. Thank you!

The weakest point in your door tends to be the strike plate. I bought this strike plate on the recommendation of the Wirecutter web site. The Good Parts* Adds a lot more strength than a lot of the strike plates that come with deadbolts (looking at you, Kwikset/Weiser)* Comes with long screws* Screw hole locations don't line up with your old holes, which means you don't reuse those holes, which may have already been weakened from wear* Has screw holes in its "pocket" for additional strength* A very inexpensive upgrade to your door securityCould Be Better* The screws could still be longer* You will probably need to carve out a larger hole to fit the strike plate's "pocket", which is a bit of work if you're not handy* Would be nice if it came in a silver color

Solid build and well reviewed. Comes with 2" screws but I installed it with 3" screws for better security. Given the size of the strike box and plate, I found installation required a great deal of chiseling and mortising- a fair amount of wood needed to be removed to accommodate the strike box and plate.

Door jamb had a hole that was long and deep where a plate would go. Couldn't install any regular plate to it. I needed exactly this product. Long enough to clear and having a pocket to fill in the hole inside the jamb.First off, I have no idea about any of this stuff. If I can do it, anyone can. I just googled a standard install and applied it to this product and off I went.I have no issues with the screws that came with it like some reviewers had. They felt sturdy enough for me. In fact once you get all 4 screws in there, this thing feels secured. For just a few dollars this thing gives you a lot of security. No way anyone is kicking this out unless the entire door jamb comes apart.

Good product and equally good transaction and delivery. Product really does strengthen the overall door lock significantly. Would purchase again.

This wasn't too difficult to install if you have the right tools. However, the "hardened" screws snapped relatively quickly when using my impact driver to install them. So, I used common galvanized screws, which handled the force quite readily. I highly suggest they upgrade the cheap screws that come with them, and perhaps, offer a variety of popular finishes. The brass is a bit tacky when the owner has oil rubbed bronze or satin nickel hardware...

This product was one of several recommended in .After reading ""Kick Ass" Home Security!", it was painfully obvious how poorly designed, constructed, and installed the exterior doors and door frames are in my home.I installed the Prime U 9539 Strike on the deadbolt on my front door. In theory, it is a relatively simple installation, but my door frame had a surprise that made it more difficult than average. For some reason, my door frame had a steel plate on the back side of the door frame (behind the wood). So when I tried to drill the holes for the Prime Line strike plate, the drill came to a dead stop and I knew I had hit metal. After a minute of looking in the existing deadbolt hole, I realized that the steel plate was behind the door frame around the entire deadbolt area. In theory, this might be useful if the deadbolt reached through the frame that far, but it didn't , so the plate was useless. The existing hole in the door frame made it impossible to drill two 1" holes to make room for the Prime strike, so had to use a smaller wood bit and chisel to remove all of the wood and expose the metal plate. I then had to drill a bunch of holes through the metal plate so that I could cut it out.Even with the wood and steel plate removed, the Prime strike is so deep that I had to remove some wood from the wall stud. After that extra drilling, and a fair amount of chisel work to cut a recess in the door frame, the Prime strike fit relatively flush and installed easily. The product is well made, and seems like a good solution, but obviously the installation my be challenging depending on your particular door frame. Also, I saw this product (and several other by this same company) at my local orange big box home improvement store for less than a Starbucks coffee, so they seem to be readily available at local stores.Although this product definitely improves the strength of the deadbolt area, my front door has glass and is a hollow metal door, so I'm guessing a few kicks would split it open, or the glass would be broken and someone could reach right in and unlock the deadbolt.Given this, I also bought a from Amazon, which serves as a final line of defense, and seems like it will work pretty well.My only complaint about this product, like many other other door security hardware products, is that it is apparently not available in brushed steel. The bright brass color isn't my favorite, but since it is only visible when the door is opened, it isn't too big of an issue.
