The title pretty much says my review. Was surprised to hear such a high end cut with them vs your basic $10 chrome plated set. It’s subtle but noticeable. Some might like it, no doubt, but I’m not one of them. No slam against the company, since I use Pro Mark sticks and D’addario guitar strings. But I’ve tried two sets and they’re not for me.

I recently bought a new 6.5”x14” DW Collector’s Nickel over Brass snare drum. Inherently, it is VERY bright in tonality and I wanted a way to bring out the low end and body of the drum. This snare wire did everything and more! The response is excellent and worked very well in live and studio applications.

The concert wires delivered exactly what I wanted--the richness of the snare shell coming through and a bit less high frequency snare wire top end. The effect is a some have described, a richer midrange presentation. These are on my vintage Slingerland chrome over brass snare drum. I'll place another order and try them on a maple shell and Supraphonic L400 soon. Yes, the snare sound is sensitive and nicely balanced.

If you want snare presence that isn’t overbearing, these are the snares for you.

This might be the goldilocks of snare wires - not too much snare sound, not too much shell sound - it's just right. There's a reason orchestral players use these; they are snappy, crisp, and articulate without being overbearing or underwhelming.Very versatile - I play top 40, funk, punk, and classic rock - and they always deliver. You really can't go wrong with Puresound and these are another example of their quality and value.

I am really pleased with these snare wires. I have a hex badge 70's Gretsch and I wanted a snare sound that didn't intrude on the drum's character, but that still gave great responsiveness and clarity to the snare. This does exactly that. Do not be put off by the low number of snare wires; this is why it sounds so good, in my opinion. Equally, do not think that because they are classed as a 'concert' snare that this is their sole application. My view is that this clarity and sensitivity which we may regard orchestral players as having with their snares, is to be welcomed in to the realm of jazz, funk, latin and even pop and rock. Anyway, the tuning of the snare drum, of course, changes how this, and other snare wires, respond. I can get a varied sound from the drum with alterations to its tuning. The main characteristic with this snare, for me, is that the drum's voice has more presence, but with a responsive snare sound, right out to the edge of the drum. The snare buzz is reduced and decays quickly, and is not intrusive (in comparison with my last generic 20 strand snare). However, I tune my kick drum high and play it open with only a felt damper on it, as I like the jazz sound, and this affects the snare more than the high tom - which is unusual. That said, it is not invasive or distracting and I'm happy for my sound to include all the resonance and interactions of the kit voices.... let's see how that pans out with the sound engineers!I never write reviews like this, which means I'm delighted with the sound these have given me and want to pass it on. Check out Youtube, there is a comprehensive test of over 30 snare wires by one guy, and to me the stand out tests were with those wires with less than 20 strands. They gave the drum much more character, whilst maintaining articulation.Anyway, rant over. You'll make your own best decision. Good luck.

Ladies and Gentleman: PURSOUND CONCERT WIRES 14/16.

Consigliata!

LESS IS BETTER!! Whether on a MIJ drum with no snare beds or a Ludwig Supraphonic, 12 wires make a BIG sound. Tight and crisp with very little room for overtones. Forget the 16 or 20 wire debate...12 is the way to go!

I bought both the 16 strand and the 12 strand Concert Series snare wires in 14", and I have to say they have a very even and clear sound. It's clearly obvious that they are WAY better quality than the standard $10 replacement wires you can get anywhere else, and they can help make a cheap snare sound like an expensive one.My only advice is that, if you are putting these on a concert snare drum, you stick with the 12 strand Concert wires instead of the 16 strand. They do a better job of balancing more shell sound and less snare sound, which is usually what concert drums should sound like.
