About this item

  • Quartz Clock Movement Kit: This clock mechanism is perfect with its clock parts for repairing, replacing, or making your own DIY clock project. The clock movement design keeps foreign matter out of the gears, resulting in years of trouble-free operation.
  • Clock Movement Measurements: Total hand shaft length is 28.6 mm (1 1/8 inch). Total shaft diameter is 7.9 mm (5/16 inch).
  • Maximum Clock Dial Thickness: 17.5 mm (11/16 inch). Refers to the thickness of the combined material (clock face material and support board the dial is mounted to) that the threaded length of the movement shaft travels through. The hardware adds 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) making the total length of the threaded bushing 19.1 mm (3/4 inch). For finding a replacement, measure the threaded portion of the shaft on the old clock movement. If length is shorter or equal to 19.1 mm (3/4 inch), this is suitable.
  • Clock Hands Measurements: Total black spade hour and minute hand length is approx. 63.5 mm (2 1/2 inch), total red second hand length is approx. 69.9 mm (2 3/4 inch). The Q-80 movement will have a step motion that creates a ticking sound, powered by an AA battery.
  • Package Contents Include: One easy to assemble quartz clock movement, one hour hand, one minute hand, one second hand, and hand mounting hardware.

Length of the hand shaft on the movement

The proper hand shaft length is essential to ensure sufficient clearance when going through your dial board and if you are using a glass front on your clock. Measure from the base of the movement to the tip of the hand shaft, as shown above. You must allow sufficient clearance for the hand shaft in order to attach the mounting hardware and for the hands to properly operate.

Threaded Bushing Length

The threaded bushing length of the hand shaft secures your clock movement to the clock face and support board. Measure the threaded bushing portion of an existing shaft, as shown above For new movements, measure the total thickness of the clock face material (clock face and support board) the shaft will have to pass through.

Instructions for assembling your Quartz Movement, Dial and Hands

1. Rubber Gasket:

  • Place the rubber gasket between the clock movement & clock face.

2. Clock Face:

  • Place the brass washer between the clock face & the hex nut.
  • Tighten the hex nut down to hold the movement firmly in position.

3. Hour and Minute Hands:

  • Temporarily place the minute hand over the "I" shaft as illustrated and rotate the minute hand clockwise until it is pointing at the "12" on the clock face. Then carefully remove it without rotating the "I" shaft.
  • Choose any number on your clock face to align the hour hand with. Very carefully press the hour hand straight down onto the tapered, friction-fit hour shaft until the hand is firmly in place.
  • When you have the hour hand mounted, carefully remount the minute hand at "12".

4. Second Hand or Cap Nut:

  • Tighten the open nut down to hold the hour and minute hands in position and then press the stem of the second hand down over the tiny second-hand pin shaft that protrudes up through the center of the minute hand shaft.
  • Tighten the cap nut down to hold the hour and minute hands in position if the second hand is not going to be used.

Purchased 3 of these movements at separate times across the past year, all brand new. None of them ever worked correctly despite me following the included directions as written and trying multiple batteries that I confirmed to be fresh.I would love to purchase a similar movement from a competitor but unfortunately no one else makes the shafts as long as this one.Quality control for this company needs to ensure every movement is actually tested before shipping to customers.

I bought this unit to replace the worn-out movement on a clock my daughter made almost 20 years ago. When I opened the package I was impressed with how carefully the items had been packed. Compared to a more expensive unit that failed when I installed it, everything about this kit was of higher quality. The instructions are excellent. It was a breeze to install and so far is working perfectly. This is a bargain and highly recommended.Note: one thing I learned from my bad experience a few days ago is to insert the battery and the second hand at the outset to make sure the clock works before removing them and following the installation instructions. Wish I had done that with the last kit.

I wanted to replace the original wind-up mechanism in an early 1900s wooden desk clock which has a thick faceplate. The shaft on this Quartz Clock Movement is exactly the same length as the original and worked perfectly for my project. I removed the original mechanism and stored it in a gallon size zip-lock bag, put the new mechanism through the existing hole and tightened the nut on the shaft to hold it in place. The hands were a bit longer than the original ones, but are easily cut to length with a small pair of wire cutters. You can install it with, or without the second hand. To keep the clock looking original, I chose not to install it. Now, I have a beautiful old clock that is totally silent and doesn't require winding.

This has helped me fix and salvage an outdoor wall clock. My clock is 14 inches. The hands with this clock mechanism are not meant for a clock that large. The clock motor was what I needed. I took the original hands from the broken mechanism and attached then to this new one. Now I have a working clock again with just a small investment of time and money.
