I bought this for filtering the diesel on my TDI swapped desert buggy. I have positive pressure (gravity) to the filter 24X7 and it's tight. I like the sight bowel on the bottom. Flows plenty of fuel for the 100hp TDI.

Right out of the box; l noticed debris in the clear bowl. I tried to remove the bowl with a strap wrench to no avail. It took a 24" pipe wrench and an 18" channel lock to break them apart. Same thing to get the filter off of the metal head. Had some damage to the filter and bowl but still usable so l cleaned them and reinstalled them hand tight with an oil lube. Glad l was able to find this out before it was insllalled below deck when large wrenches would not fit.

For the price of a filter, one can get this entire housing with hose barbs and clear water separator bowl with a filter to boot! No pipe dope or teflon tape are included, but should be applied to the 1/4" NPT hose barbs and plugs if they are used. Inlet/outlet on either side provides flexibility in mounting and arranging hoses. Plug on front can be used as a venting plug or for adding a pressure gauge. Great addition for a small motor on a boat, tractor, furnace, or anywhere that gas or diesel or something needs water and particulates removed. For the $20 price, it's a steal and is a great visual way to verify fuel condition and flow. By adding a fuel primer bulb to the inlet, one can prime the filter and purge through to the engine's fuel system.

We've got two different R12T filter assemblies for the one on our boat which we were not able to separate from the main part that holds it to the boat - the filter was old and likely the resin gasket melted and merged the filter unit since my husband forgot to lube that part then he was changing the filter last time. After the struggle with the old, used filter, we've got this and one more similar unit in hopes of just changing the entire assembly. However, this brand new unit, although looking similar to our old one, is also not possible to disassemble, although it should have two parts of it to be able to be unscrewed with a gasket and o-ring in between all parts, the holder, the plastic bottom cup and the filter itself. So, while we were planning to change the entire assembly, we will have to do it as well instead of just changing the filter, since this one is not possible to disassemble at the beginning. It will serve, of course, until the next filter change time, but its replacement is a much bigger hassle than just replacing the filter, so only 2 stars.

Solid bracket, I did take it apart before installing, and glad I did, I had to use a filter wrench and considerable force to get the element off. I oiled the gasket (per instructions on the element) and only hand tightened it back on....like they should have done at the factory.

I normally use Racor filters, but they are so expensive and I was planning on installing out of the elements so I wanted to save some money and try this one. After opening it...you can't tell the difference between it and the racor. It's built well, the mount it robust and aluminum, the plastic is thick on the sight glass, and the paint job looks thick and good. I'll know more after a year in the marine environment, but just unboxing it I have high expectations. It also includes the brass fittings, which racors do not come with as a plus!

I'm very careful about where I fuel up my boat but a good filter is cheap insurance and this one works for me.
