This rack shelf has a huge lip, both at the front and back of the shelf. Now, this might be exactly what you need. It certainly prevents anything loose you place on it from rolling off. But if your intention is to mount a smaller piece of gear on it to make that rack-mountable? You can't. Or, at least, you're gonna have to have that gear's front plate a quarter inch indented, and half and inch covered by a metal lip. I didn't see this mentioned in the item description, and the pictures don't really show it. The last two (identical) photos kinda show it, if you squint, but the low resolution and weird photo-shopping makes it very not obvious.

Perfect fit for what we needed it for.

Shelf arrived packaged well, with foam on either end protecting the rack-mount tabs.Pros:-Shelf has a nice appearance, and consistent paint/powder coat.-Shelf included cage nuts.Cons:-Shelf is very flexible, almost flimsy. I wouldn't trust anything with any amount of weight on it.At this price point, I didn't expect anything overly robust; however, I was really surprised at just how flimsy it was.

I bought a couple of these shelves to try to lighten the weight of a mobile audio rack. It weighs 85-90 lbs., and a few pounds here or there might move it from a two-person move to one that a single, strong guy can handle. The first thing I noticed when it arrived was -- man, is it light! It actually felt like the box it came in might be empty. I replaced a 10" deep steel shelf with an 8" aluminum one: the weight comparison of the bare shelves is 3lb 12oz vs. 0lb 11oz (about 1.7kg vs. 315g).The paint finish is excellent, and looks like it will last a long time. The shelf has reinforcement bends on both long sides, giving it extra strength. Now the bad news -- well, soft of ... The shelf is thinner than a typical steel shelf; probably something around 18 gauge. It flexes more than most steel shelves, although the problem lessens when the shelf is mounted. As such, I don't know if I would trust the 25-lb rating, even with the reinforcements; especially, not in a rack that is moved around a lot. Personally, I wouldn't use it to mount a power amp, or even a DVD player. And I don't think I would use it upside down, something I never think twice about with steel shelves. But for mounting a few gadgets that don't have rack ears, total weight of maybe 6-7lb, the shelf is just about perfect.

The 13 rack shelves that I order was what I was looking for. They originally didn't have the mounting screws however gave customer support a call and they shipped them right out. That's why I did not rate them lower. Will order more in the near future.

The shelf is fine.. However it did not come with any screws! It is shown as including screws and there are none in the box! Now I need to buy more screws!

It's lighter than many shelf units I've used before, but sturdy enough for most things -- maybe holding a large UPS batter or something would be best left to a thicker non-vented unit.I'm using it in an 'inverted' mount as a simple keyboard/mouse shelf, letting it's lip keep the items from sliding off -- will need a mousepad for serious use due to the vents.

I bought this to install in a 9U desktop rack but it's not what i thought it was. The shelf sits at an angle rather then horizontally in this rack so i bought the wrong thing but otherwise construction is very good.

Sturdy, looks real nice, worked very well. Will not likely hold up a cinder block, but it will hold most any item it is being intended for.
