These Ryoba saws are designed for cutting hard or abrasive woods such as maple, oak, teak and exotic hardwoods. The blade is thinner (.018˝) and has a greater number of teeth per inch than comparable saws of its size and type. This ensures an exceedingly smooth, accurate cut. The teeth are impulse hardened for extended wear. Blades can be interchanged and a brochure detailing use is included with each saw.

These blades are really nice. I use mine to cut mostly red oak and poplar in both the rip cut and cross cut capacity mainly for joinery. They are sharp, draw nicely and leave a fantastic edge when done. If you're not used to Asian style pull saws, these are a great general purpose saw with excellent abilities and a forgiving length.

just a novice here but this thing works beautifully. came in handy when I had to adjust some blocking and the power was off haha. its a serious saw.... should last ages if well kept. should always have a few handsaws, it's really opened my eyes having used mostly power tools.

This saw can cut big and little pieces of wood without hitting a backplate. The fine and corse teeth makes clean cuts. Overall, a great saw.

This cuts like butter with precision! I used it to shorten the legs on a barstool. I used a handsaw and it didn't dent the wood after an hour. I bought this and got the job done in less than 10 min. Beautiful and precise!

Te connection between the blade and the handle loosens and the blade won't stay straight. It's impossible to tighten the screw hard enough to eliminate the problem. This really limits the use of the saw.

Consiglio l'acquisto.

I was brought up learning about Japanese culture and was always fascinated by their wood working techniques and tools. As an adult, I was familiar with Japanese pull saws and decided to pull the trigger on a more affordable model to get some in-hand experience with a tool that's always caught my attention from across a shop. I have to say this is one of the best $30-40 purchases I have made in recent memory. This saw cuts incredibly accurately and amazingly quickly with minimal effort on the carpenter's part. A razor thin, yet flexible blade allows for an unbelievably small kerf, smooth cut edges that don't require sanding, and minimal saw dust. I just built a chicken coop using this, a hand drill, and handful of screws. It cut through 2x2", 2x4" and 1x3" pine in a matter of seconds using the fine tooth side and did so repeatedly and reliably. I recommend leaving the cutting edge flat against a flat side of the lumber you are cutting instead of the typical western style of sawing that most are accustomed to. In other words leave the cutting edge of this saw parallel to the face of wood that is being cut, do not tilt the handle up or down to make an angled cut as I have found this is less efficient and leads to more blade biting and binding. I highly recommend this for any beginner or pro alike.

Cuts well and the rip/crosscut functionality is a big plus for me. Teeth are razor sharp and the kerf is tiny. Great for cutting tenons.I was a little surprised at the quality of the handle. It seems a bit on the chintzy side and the ratan will probably need to be replaced but other than that, I'm pleased.

I have started to like the Japanese saws that cut on the pull. I have been able to get very accurate cuts that limit my need to use the chisel to finish the work. I have been using this to cut wood for joints, half-laps, dovetails, etc. This saw works well. Another great feature is that you can replace the blade when the saw get dull. It takes a lot of skill to sharpen saw correctly, and I can't do it. I haven't done much hardwood yet, but what little I have done was easy to cut.The other thing that is an advantage is the thin kerf. Since you pull the saw, it can be very thin. "English" saw cut on the push, so a thin kerf doesn't work. Thin kerfs means less wood to cut so the sawing takes less time and effort. You also have a lot more control, and I can slow down the cut as I get to the end which helps with accuracy.
