This speaker offers a noticeable increase in clarity and crunch compared to the celestion 70/80 that came stock in my Blackstar HT40 club. It sounds meaner with gain and the clean channel has an improved smoothness. Adding this speaker to a combo or cabinet and upgrading preamp tubes in your amp are probably the best investments you can make to improve your tone.

I really love this speaker... if you are looking to rid yourself of some of that high end fizzle that some of these high gain amps produce, this is the speaker to warm up the sound... nice mids and tight lows.. I replaced a celestian 70/80 with this speaker in my Blackstar combo amp, nice balanced tone for hard rock and metal... Absolute game changer!

Vintage 30 too fizzy and harsh in the top mids? This speaker rules. The perfect mid bump just below that of the celestion. Your guitar tone will leap out of the mix. I have this in a 1x12 connected to a Friedman BE 50.

Nice thick sounds with single coils and buckers. Only used it with vintage fender amps so far. Nice midrange. Not overbearing . So far so good. I have been meaning to try a governor out for a long time but was put off by comparisons to the V30. I have 3 V30’s and the governor sounds very different. Nicer mids without the bump. I would buy this again.

I was unaware of how important speakers are to shape the tone of my guitar before buying this...I wasn’t satisfied with these scooped sound on my new EVH iconic combo, so I swapped the stock speaker with the Governor and immediately gained clear low mids and more articulate low end! This speaker really shines on dirty channels...The only problem now is that I want to try out all other Eminence speakers!

I replaced the 10" speaker in my AC4 with this 12" and it surpassed my expectations. Wonderful depth, clarity, and crispness. It took some work to make it fit my combo-cabinet including moving some of the innards out of the way because of the speaker's depth, but it was well worth the work...IMO.

I bought this Marshall Code 50 combo modeling amp. It sounded ok, nothing to brag since it was a practice amp anyhow. But I always felt that the sound was mediocre. So I did research and found this Eminence Governor speaker. I was amazed, I could not believe the sound. Keep in mind I took a big, big chance since I mainly play Post-Punk/Goth type music (a lot of chorus, delay, reverb, compressor, overdrive, etc). But I couldn't get the right distorted sound. I figure, since this was a metal type speaker, I'll give it a try. I can't believe the sound now! Cleans are clean, really clean, the notes pour through like sweet water for my ears (single coil Strat) and I can play metal if I feel like with my Les Paul that has EMG J/M pick ups. The treble sound has improved tremendously. I can hear the beauty of the guitar and pick ups. If you have a Marshall Code 50, I highly recommend this speaker no matter what style you play. You'll be amazed!

Built a pine 1x12 cab for an Orange Micro Terror Dark. Used a Celestion 70/80 I had. That speaker left me wanting more,a lot more. Switched over to the 12inch Gov for something different. Wasnt sure I would like the darker sound but its beautiful and rich. Lots of mids not too bassy. Plenty of tone to be had from the guitar and pedals. It sounds great with a strat. Wasnt sure if I had to rebuild/replace the cab but Im glad I went this route. Really happy. I can get some Paige vibes with reverb, chorus and trans OD. I want to get another Eminence for my FHD, build quality is very nice, shipped well protected. Really was surprised how good the micro terror sounded with this.

UPDATE: 12-14-18: I just finished my complete amp and tested my Martin D-16 acoustic with pickup and I love it! The low-E, 82 Hz, booms thru, if you allow it to. It reproduces what I perceive as exact tones from each string. 12" Governor: Just received it packaged for battle! Great packaging! I ran a preliminary low power frequency response, by ear, and had usable output down to 20 Hz, and up to or beyond 6 kHz. I do have a sound level meter, but just had to know quickly what to really expect! I wanted to make sure it would reproduce my low E guitar string at 82 Hz. I love it! I am building my own amp for my Martin acoustic guitar with electronics inside. With this speaker my 20 Watt RMS amp. will sound like a 40 Watt, ( compared to a 99 dB speaker) which is sufficient for my intended use. I will run the more accurate tests after the speaker is in its 3/4" maple ply housing, yet to be built. As this will be on a church platform and also subject to grandchildren, the protective grille is indestructible! And the rear is fairly protected. Also, it can hardly be seen or noticed in a softly lighted area. It weighs 36 pounds, but I plan to add 3" wheels which will add about 5 pounds, but I won't have to ever carry it. I do use a small hand truck now.

Nice bass, smooth high end after short break in. It is took the mud out of my valve king combo. Great clean or distorted. I play 80s metal.

The Governor sounds a little like the Celestion V30, not as mid-scooped, and maybe a touch less crunch - like a more balanced tone. The Man O War is a little "darker" sounding than the Governor speaker to my ear. The Governor has a little more bite like a V30, but is less mid-scooped than a V30. The Man O War and Governor together seem to produce a nice fat tone, not too bright, not too scooped, but nice growl on distorted tones, but works very well on clean tones as well. Not sure I'd want the Man O War by itself for more clean/chimey tones, but together with the Governor the tone is fat. I like it : )I had an Avatar 2x12 cabinet with two Celestion G12 Century speakers (these have lightweight neodymium magnets) wired in series for an 16 ohm cabinet. Sort of an unusual wiring scheme since most cabinets/amps are set up for 8 ohm.For years I struggled to get good tones out of my amps, and unfortunately, I kept blaming the amplifier and kept going through amp after amp....finally one day it dawned on me that some of the well rated amps I tossed to the side just might not be the problem, it might be the speakers. I always knew that good speakers were important, but I had some good speakers already in the cabinet.I was going to try swapping out the G12s with V30s but decided to give these Eminence speakers a try mostly because they were cheaper by a long way and also because I wasn't convinced that the G12s were the problem. So I picked this (sort of similar sounding to a V30, but less scooped sounding) and a Man O War speaker (which I read was a good combo).Huge improvement in tone, actually, outstanding really. I don't know if it was because I now had a more "standard" 8 ohm cabinet wired in parallel which matched up better with my amp, or the fact that the heavier magnets are just better than the lightweight neodymium magnets, but these speakers sound great. I am using a Mesa Mark V which I loved when I tested it out in the store, but for years at home I was just not getting anywhere near the right sound - something was always missing before. I was blaming the amp, stomp boxes, everything and was just overlooking a key part of the sound - the speakers! The speakers make the sound after all, so a good quality speaker is probably one of the most important things.I can't compare this directly to anything, but my Mesa now chimes, growls and sounds fat like it did when I test drove it, so the Mesa is saved! Great value, I would buy Eminence again.
