I wanted to reclaim some floor space, and this did it for me. The stand that it replaced was a "3" leg boom stand that covered a lot of area. Nice to be able to move it around but it pretty much stayed where it was 99% of the time. I needed something with a 5/8" mounting hole to use the upper portion of the existing stand and this has a 1/2" insert and when removed accepts a 5/8" diameter. I did need to remove material/grind the OD of the existing upper to get it to fit. After I sawed off about 18" to get the height I wanted (0:I've mounted it to an adjustable height workstation, so I just hit a button and voila, when I'm ready to record a vocal track it's right where I want it while standing. I didn't buy it to do podcasts or whatever else these things are made for while sitting. It feels pretty robust and I'm happy with it...hopefully somebody stumbles across this review and gets another idea for how it "could" be used in a manner it wasn't intended for.

Works great! Bought a vintage lamp and was able to get it going again thanks for the this little clamp. Highly recommend.

I have a retractable arm holding my iPad in a convenient position attached to a side table. The old clamp broke after a while and I got this as a replacement. It functions well, but it is difficult to tighten sufficiently to keep it from sliding off. While it is constructed well, it just can’t handle the considerable load of the arm holding the iPad when extended.

Much better than the plastic clamps that ship with arm lamps these days. This item has holes in 2 axes for horizontal or vertical mounts.

When it said heavy duty and I paid more for it and it's exactly the same as the cheaper ones I was very disappointed. It barely holds my light and I can't move it or it will fall off. It's not deep enough to hold the light steady. I have to use a board just to brace it and that's not enough.

I have an very thick desk that has a very thick metal frame that runs about an inch back from the edge of my desk and mounting mic stands has always been a big issue, usually ending up with the clamp breaking or constantly falling off. This is wide enough to fit snugly over both the desk and metal frame with no issues and the adjustable mounting hole (the hole has a tightening screw AND a removable plastic liner if your mounting arm is on the smaller side) makes it so I can use any of the arms that I've gone through and pick the one I like.

It's simple, and it boggles the mind that a clamp like this (or at least of this *size*) does not come standard with more items. Basically every desk you can buy now (unless you specifically look for solid wood) is made of engineered wood lined by support railing to give it strength. This support railing runs the length of the desk's perimeter, and is close enough to the edge to prevent any smaller clamp (This clamp has a *3in* opening, which allows it to open wide enough to overcome the rail, or simply use the rail to clamp onto. (what I did in my case). The clamp itself is one solid piece of metal, which I very much appreciate.I'll update the review if anything changes, but given that this is the first and only clamp I've found that's: a.) large enough to fit onto the desks being made nowadays, b.) one solid piece of coated metal, c.) currently clamping my mic's boom arm to my desk, unless it just disintegrates one day, I don't see my assessment changing. One thing worth noting: the distance of your rail from the edge will make a difference for clamping utility. My rail is about 1/2" offset from the edge, which ended up being perfect, as I could push the clamp frame firmly against the table edge, and the actual clamp was more-or-less centered on the rail. If your support rail is *closer* than that, you may need to bolster the rail with a small block of wood, just to give the clamp something to lock against.

It's exactly what I needed, the table I ordered, the edge was bigger than normal 3+ inches, it was able to go over it easily, it's very sturdy and strong clamp, the arm not sure what size it is but I believe it is universal, I didn't need to take off the plastic that you can take off, overall very happy with it and probably will buy more because it fits on my table perfectly
