The pha4 key bed is great as always. The instrument is pretty compact for fully weighted hammer action keys. Huge collection of very high quality sounds. As usual for compact PHA4 Roland keyboards, this unit has a deep bucket underneath the keys. This can take some getting used to, because getting the top of the keys at close to standard piano height doesn't leave much clearance for your knees underneath. So I'm using it a tiny bit higher than I'm used to, but it only took a few minutes to get comfortable with that. But it's something to be aware of, if you're used to playing a traditional piano. You might have some trouble getting the keys at a height that feels right and still have room for your knees.I play about 99% of the time with headphones on, so I can't really comment on the speaker quality other than to say that yes they work. I had some difficulty getting the USB audio to work in Windows 11. Eventually, I had to download the driver from Roland and then switch the USB to " vendor " in the settings on the piano. Then you have to power everything off and back on again and that seemed to do the trick. There's probably a simpler way, but I did get there and it does work great. It could be my imagination, but the default concert grand piano seems to sound better than it did on my FP30x. (Maybe my FP30x just needed a firmware update. Or maybe just the default effects are set a bit different on the RD88 EX. I have not explored the effects options much.). There are some tone combinations on this unit (aka scenes) that are so beautiful you might weep.
