A good setup unless you know how to perform yourself will cost you an extra $100. No bargain. Strictly an entry level Chinese-made instrument that you will want to replace soon enough. A better option is an Ibanez beginner bass (just one example) that is already set up, better made and with better hardware and electronics. Sold on Amazon too.

I ordered the purple one with black hardware and got this one with chrome hardware plugged it in and it sounds great. The set up was pretty much spot on, but I’m returning it because the wrong item was sent. I will repurchase the one I wanted or the black one once I get a refund.

I'm a pro player and fortunately I know how to do setups. Out of the box... Barely OK for a beginner. The fretwork on my bass was great, it even had rolled edges, but the fingerboard was rough and completely dried up.. On the plus side it is a thick slab of what looks like rosewood.( not sure if it is, probably not) I had to sand it and did several applications of boiled linseed oil. Now it looks and feels great. The electronics are noisy but OK for a beginner playing at home. I'm a pro, so I replaced them with EMGs. Setup was not great, the action was way too high, the bridge is junk, I replaced it with a Badass, but the trussrod works perfectly . The D string had a lot of buzzing that I could not get did of. I replaced the strings and that solved the problem. Now it plays great, action is 3/32 on the highest fret G string and 4/32" on the E string. So quite good. The neck was a bit too fat for my taste so I reshaped it. I shielded the bass and with the new pickups and electronics (EMG Geezer) it's quiet and it sounds really nice. The pickguard it total trash. It is not tortoise. The top layer is super thin, probably just a photo of tortoise and it wore through to the white underneath in a month. I will have to buy a new pick guard. Unfortunately the locations for the screw holes are not correct so extra work is required. Still not a bad bass for the money ( 159.-) but only if you know what you are doing. Beginners or parents trying to get the kids into playing look elsewhere.

Great P Bass sound without the hefty P Bass expense. Excellent customer service experience too; I had a blemish on the pickguard and distributor replaced promptly. I would recommend the Sawtooth EP bass to anyone for anything be it practice, Band rehearsal, recording and gigs. Very impressive.

Great bass for the money. I’ve owed a few sawtooth guitars/basses and I’m always impressed. No fret sprout and very minimal set up needed. For this bass there was significant fret buzz but raised the saddles and adjusting the intonation made a world of difference (but for $95 it’s amazing). Side note, for the guitars I’ve got way better quality out of this brand than squire bullet products.

Out of the box,, just perfect. The timers, the bridge, the neck, the finish, just everything is rock solid. For a measley$140 you can get yourself, hands down, one of the best beginner to advanced standard p basses around. Sawtooth is a force to be reckoned with. Just, 😲

I have played guitar for many years, but this is my first attempt to play bass. For this price, it suits my needs as a beginner, but I'm sure dozens of more expensive basses would put it to shame.
