They offer unique design features not found on any other bars, including cutaway ends for improved control, and a semi-bullet tip which facilitates movement across the strings. Shubb-Pearse steels are machined, not extruded, so the playing surface has a true radius. Made of brass for warm musical tone, and heavily chrome plated (not nickel) for abrasion resistance.SP3 Designed by Sally Van Meter for playing bluegrass, or any of today's demanding slide guitar styles. It's built for speed, precision, control, and great tone.

Easy to hold and use. A tad pricey, but you do get what you payed for.

I really like the feel of this bar. Fits my hand perfectly. But the edges are not sharp enough for good pull offs. I just bought a whole bunch of bars to compare. This one is the most comfortable for me. The Sheerhorn however, was the winner. Has just the right weight and sounds fantastic for hammer ons and pull offs. Not as comfortable as this one but works well enough. I also like the lap dawg, lighter, decent pull offs and pretty comfortable. But if you are not doing a lot of hammer ons and pull offs this one is nice and cheap.

Very good slide. It is very fast and smooth. It's easy to hold, the concave surfaces are wide and deep. Heavy-ish bar, good sustain. It is kinda wide, not a bullet tip. I use it on a regular guitar converted to lap steel, so this sb3 is a little long, its length is for 8 string or above. Much better (and heavier) than the 15mm deep socket that I was using. My recommendation is to keep the plastic retail hanger that schubb packages the bar in, and cut off the top, and put some velcro or snaps on it for a protective case of some sort. After all, it does say "reusable" on the clear plastic package.

Good enough steel, good shape and amply weighted, can't fault it really. Just one issue. The steel pictured in the advert shows a Shubb 1, however, I received a Shubb 3. That actuality should be addressed immediately and is the reason the review lost a star rating. One other thing, I suspect that the steel is steel plated rather than solid and will deteriorate to wear and tear in time from natural finger sweat. Other than that it's perfectly adequate though I prefer a Stevens type personally, every steelie has his preference. It hasn't put me off acquiring a Shubb 1 for my collection, which I did get at a cheaper price I would add.

This was my second steel. The first was an SP1, also made by Shubb. It was well made, but it wasn't tall enough for my hands to get a good grip. I got this one next, partly because I liked the size better, but also because I like Sally Van Meter, by whom it was designed. (I used to see her with The Good Ole Persons band in San Francisco 20+ years ago).Instead of a resonator guitar, I play on a standard dreadnought guitar with the nut and saddle raised. The weight of the bar feels good to me and it gives good clean tone. If it had a sharper edge for even cleaner pulloffs I'd have given it a 5 star rating. Of course, my playing technique isn't exactly professional, not even close, so I may revise my thinking as I get more proficient.I recently tried the Shubb GS (hardwood and stainless steel design) which I like, but have some reservations about. With the curved top it is very comfortable for my slightly older hands, but I find that the stainless steel part is too light. I don't get the strong attack and the notes don't ring as long as with the heavier bar. I'm considering trying to retrofit a curved top to the Sally Van Meter SP3.Note: Even though this review is on Suzanne Sheumaker's account, I'm Craig, her husband.
