For most of your indoor work, this stepper lets you take all the steps. The quality and construction are well done, and the price is affordable. It also comes with a resistance band, which is very convenient.

My wife wants to put this stepper next to her standing workstation so she can move around a bit while being at the computer for 8 hours.

I ordered this because I can no longer walk/run due to some joint problems and have been looking for a low-impact option that fits in my small apartment. I've just started using this and will update after more testing, but here are my initial impressions:This stepper is really solid! It weighs about 14 lb, and has a very sturdy frame. As you'd expect for this type of equipment, the motion of the step hinges from the toe and a hydraulic piston allows you to depress the heel end of the step. The +/- adjustment changes the height of the toe end of the step, allowing a greater range of motion for the step overall. At the larger step height, it can be hard to step quickly because the hydraulic resistance becomes greater as the step is more depressed. Said differently, it's hard to move through the full range of motion AND take rapid steps. This is fundamental to a hydraulic design like this and is not specific to this particular stepper. This stepper comes with an electronic step/cadence counter, which is a nice feature that I have not been able to test because it does not come with the required LR44 battery. (?)Overall, I think this will be useful to sneak in more activity on work breaks in my small apartment. It fits under the bed nicely. I'm not sure it is a viable option for a 30+ minute truly aerobic workout on a regular basis, but I will test further and update this review.======== UPDATED, now 2 Stars =======After installing the batteries, I have used the stepper several times. Functionally, it works pretty well for a quick 15-20 min workout. I am not able to get my heart rate as high as a fully equipped stepper/elliptical with more stability.I changed my rating from 4 stars to 2 stars, however because the stepper makes a mess with every use (see photos). The step height adjustment requires that the steps slide over the support bars, which have plastic/rubber caps on them. The motion of stepping skives little flakes of plastic off the caps, leaving a mess of black plastic flakes underneath the stepper. Vacuuming after every use is a pain in the neck. I will look for a small mat to catch the flakes, but this is very disappointing and I'm concerned that the wear in these parts will lead to performance issues over time (e.g. resistance will increase w/more friction, limiting step cadence). Also note that the hydraulic tubes get quite hot after 15-20 minutes, so be careful picking up the stepper. That may be why the owner's manual recommends limiting use to 15 minutes at a time.
