This is a great light that comes on when the power goes out. I am using this at home and modified the plastic "EXIT" face. I cut out the word "EXIT" and left behind a 1/2" boarder all around. My wife is drawing a picture on semi-transparent paper and that will go on the face. So for me, I will have an always lit transparent picture, and the 2 lights at the sides will only come on when the power goes out. (I didn't modify any wiring, this is how the emergency light is manufactured - EXIT always lit, 2 side lights come on when power goes out).I didn't have any power where I wanted to mount this, so I went to the big box store and bought a 12 foot extension cord and cut the 3 way receptacle off, and trimmed back the housing to wire this light. What I purchased had a "polarized" plug (They are all either polarized or it's a 3 wire grounded plug) - and the wide blade goes to the "neutral" or white wire. The wire housing coming from the wider "polarized" plug always has some marking to it, mine had molded in stripes in the housing. There is a tiny plug in the lower left hand corner of the inside of the light that needs to be plugged in to the tiny outlet to get things to work, basically this hooks up the battery. Instructions were not superb by any means, but it did say to have power going to the light before you plug this little guy in.There are lights at the bottom of this unit only, so mid way up there is less light, and at the top even less light. The lights are green LED's.This can be back mounted or top mounted, for me back mounting was the way to go.There is also a "test" button at the bottom, so you can tell if the batteries are working OK, push the button and it cuts the power, and your side lights will come on.Nice light, couple of modifications to the plastic got me a great household emergency light!!

I like that the green "exit" portion of this sign, when lit, isn't obnoxiously bright. The side-lamps however, when activated, are very bright, which is precisely what you'd hope for. Installing the unit couldn't be easier, so I won't describe it, as the listing provides a video showing the basic process. So as long as you have AC (line) power available wherever you intend to mount it (as I did), then it's a snap and takes less than 5 minutes. The build quality of the exit sign housing is sufficiently sturdy and aesthetically (if that matters for an exit sign), it looks great. The side lamps are easy to adjust and hold in place nicely. I installed two of these in my auto-body shop and with the lights out, these side lamps provide an incredible amount of light, which is obviously very important in an emergency that would cause the lights to fail or happen at night time, or what have you. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product and therefore, gladly recommend it to others.

I ordered this exit sign for a commercial application to replace an old incandescent exit sign. I did the math and estimated that replacing the bulbs and backup battery in the old exit sign would cost about $20. Therefore, it made sense to proceed with a total replacement. This unit has a plastic enclosure, which will tolerate the damp warehouse environment without rusting like the previous metal fixture. So far, this fixture performs as described. Based on this experience, I am considering ordering more exit signs to replace the remaining exit signs in the facility. The only negative thing is that the pricing structure for these exit signs is nonsensical. At the time of this review (April 7th, 2024), if you purchased a two-pack, you would pay $33.89 per unit compared to $27.77 each for two single units. An eight-pack would cost $45.97 per fixture. That makes no sense to me. Consumers generally expect the unit price to drop when purchasing larger quantities. The four-pack is the best option for my needs because the cost per unit is $25.00. Hopefully, the seller will reassess their pricing structure in the future.

the sign comes fully assembled with everything contained inside. including the instructions, it took a second to figure out how to open it. there are to tabs on top and bottom that you press and pull the face off. just make sure it is the face side since the back has additional tabs that make it a bit harder to remove. of course this comes wiht the horrible wire nuts that need to be thrown out. the battery needs to be connected prior to use, which is easier if you take off the back face. there are multiple cut outs depending on which way the sign needs to point, how you want to mount it and such. unfortunately the interior only has lights on the bottom so the exit is brighter on the bottom and fades to the top. it does come with another face to make it double sided. no extra red lense came with it. green is all you get.
