About this item

  • Cog Sizes: 11 - 50t
  • Cog Material: steel
  • Cassette Body Type: Shimano/SRAM 8, 9, 10 Speed , Shimano Dynasys 11 Speed Mountain
  • Carrier Material: aluminum
  • Claimed Weight: 615g

The PG-1230 NX Eagle 12-Speed Cassette gives you nearly the same range as SRAM's other Eagle cassettes, but it works with normal splined freehub bodies, so there's no need for an XD driver. In order to accommodate this compatibility, there's one less tooth on the smallest cog, which is almost negligible for your top-end gearing. You still get the 50t bailout gear, as well as the PowerGlide II tooth profile and ramp design that work together to provide seamless transitions between gears, but it's made of all steel cogs to keep the cost reasonable and improve durability. The steel construction is so tough that the cassette is rated for E-MTB applications, so it will certainly withstand heavy-duty use and abuse.

This cassette made it possible for me to upgrade my old 2x10 MTB to 1x12spd. I had been researching this option for a while, but I did not want to have to change my free-hub body to an XD free hub body. As soon as I saw this 12spd cassette available for a "normal" HG free hub body, I started configuring my upgrade. Only "downside" to this cassette working on the HG hub is not having a 10t cog. This did not bother me, as I would never need such a high gear on my mtb.I installed a 36t chain ring, 12spd SRAM AXS trans + shifter and this cassette. The combination has worked very well and I'm please with shift performance. Keep in mind I jumped about 10 years in technology from my original 2011 SRAM X9 10spd to this new combination. It has only been installed for about 3 weeks so I can't speak for durability, but so far so good. Would definitely recommend this option to anyone looking to upgrade an HG free hub wheel to 12 spd.

I bought the entire GX groupset minus the cassette individually, because I wanted use an NX cassette so I didn't have to replace my hub to XD. Installed all the components and everything works superbly.I had no install issues because I did the necessary research and measurements. You should know your bottom bracket type and measurements, if you are boost or non-boost, which spacers you use and where (all information is available at SRAM) take a digital caliper and measure. Just make sure you watch the videos how to install these products before you purchase the components and try to install the wrong one. Be sure you have a new high quality derailleur hanger. This is not a first time beginner undertaking. Know when you have no idea and ask someone and if you don't know or don't have the right tools, take it to a bike shop. You will need a chain whip, and the right socket and tools to remove your existing cassette, and bottom bracket, and same for installing your bottom bracket. I used an SRAM DUB BSA boost+ bottom bracket 68/72mm. I lucked out because it had the correct spacer for the right side, plus the boost spacer I didn't need.

My Trek Marlin is now on permanent trainer duty. I'd hoped the 3x9 drivetrain, which had alway been problematic, would suffice on the trainer, having been retired from trail duty. No such luck. So, it was time to convert to 1x12. I bought this NX Eagle cassette for compatibility with my existing hubs (trainer and mtb wheel). My conversion also included a GX Eagle 12-speed shifter, GX Eagle chain, GX Eagle Dub crankset (175mm/32-t), SRAM DUB BSA (68mm/73mm) bottom bracket and GX Eagle 12-speed rear derailleur. If you haven't ridden with a SRAM Eagle drivetrain, stop what you are doing and demo one now. If you have a Wahoo Kickr and want your Eagle drivetrain to work, read on:Wahoo Kickr Compatibility:I searched high and low to see if the NX Eagle would be compatible with the 11-speed Shimano drive body on the Wahoo Kickr. I found a single article that hinted at theoretical compatibility. Wahoo says they don't support it, but here's what you need to make your NX Eagle 12-speed cassette work flawlessly with the Wahoo Kickr:1. Suitable narrow wide cassette whip2. Shimano style cassette tool.3. Shimano 1.85mm spacer, part number: FW8991The 1.85mm spacer is the magic bullet. Don't bother trying the spacer that ships with the Kickr.
