The wife's 2016 Explorer with 3.5 Duratec and 125k miles started running hot.In the back of my mind I knew that it was probably the water pump but decided to throw in a new thermostat and temp sensor first just to be sure. The sensor itself is easy enough to remove and replace but getting to it is kind of a pain since you have to remove both the upper and lower intake manifolds just to be able to see it.Long story short, I ended up changing the water pump out as it was indeed the culprit behind the elevated running temps. Ford quoted over $5k for the job which blew my mind!I swapped the pump and timing sets myself over a weekend and it's been running fine ever since.
