Installation on my wife's 2003 Forester was a bit of a pain, but it made the shifts so much better! I didn't realize how worn out the old one was until I installed this one. Worth the effort!

if you have a bugeye the spacings of the bushings might give you issue, but it works once you get it installed!

I just installed this gear lever joint last weekend. I can’t say it was a breeze due to the spring pin removal and installation (not part of the purchased item) but it was especially difficult to slide the rubber-like bushing into the bolted joint due to excess protrusion of the bushing through its cylinder. It is not made any easier by needing to crawl under the car rather than having a lift to provide ample and comfortable access. I had to remove the transmission mounting bracketry to be able to have better access under the car (while supporting it with a jack). This joint is supposed to be an original part, which I really hope it is given the poor reviews I saw about non-OEM joints, and I really don’t want to repeat this installation.

As most older Subarus this joint was completely gone. The bushing had wore away to nothing and I had so much slop it was amazing I could shift. I replaced this and the bushings with some energy suspension components and it's like shifting a new car. No more side to side slop at all. Watch some YouTube videos on how to do this and save yourself some time and money and do the repair yourself. Also - don't let a mechanic convince you the synchros are out when it could just be the shifter bushings/u-joint.

I have a 02 WRX with a worn/wobbly shifter. Over the years it's gotten progressively worse to where crisp shifts are a thing of the past. After carefully jacking up the car (using plenty of backup jacks) i remove the old shifter and bushings and replaced them with this one. Man! it made the car like new! My original shifter joint was not as bad as some you see in repair videos, but what little play they had contributed to a large amount of shifter wobble. Removing the sifter was not bad, the worse part was getting under the car and removing/replacing the roll pin. However with that issue, it only took me about 4 hours from start to finish (I tool time to sand and repaint the shifter rod since it was looking corroded). Quality of this universal joint is excellent and well worth the price. So happy I did this!

It fit, removed all shifter slop present in my 5 speed manual. Watching the install video it looks like a pita to install, luckily my engine and transmission are out from the car for other reasons (makes that much easier to replace) and though I might as well fix that when it's easy.

I was dreading putting this in, but it was fine. Just make sure that you go to the dealer and get a new roll pin (and preferably a new bolt and nut). Make sure that you have a 3/16" punch for the inner pin, 5/16" punch for the outer pin, four jack-stands (or possibly two ramps and two jack stands), a floor jack, and some common hand tools. This job really isn't that bad if you clear enough stuff out of the way to get to the part. I supported the transmission (MT) with a jack and removed the transmission cross member(s). There is a great write-up called "DIY: Shifter Wobble Fix" on the rs25 site on how to replace this. There are also some youtube videos that can help you out.

It was a perfect fit, though I do recommend using the old pin if it’s not in bad shape it works and goes back in just fine the new pin was impossible to put back in... if you have a lift you won’t need to take the transmission brace off you just need a long punch to get in there and live up the joint because it was hard to put in but it will go.
