This is made exactly like a Sturmey brand part. The cable anchor spins freely, and it has the correct thread. Does not come with the lock nut. I used this on a Sturmey S3X

This component came with the Sunlite cable/housing kit I bought at my local bike shop. On both the vintage Schwinn I own and on the English 3-speed I bought this cable for, the cable was crimped inside the barrel of the connector - very little to fail. On my first real ride with this replacement item, I hit a pothole, my foot slipped off the pedal, and my heel hit the cable, bending the hook piece and stranding me in high gear until I was able to bend it back into place. In my mind, that's a design flaw, and I'll be looking for a different style if there is one.

It doesn't rotate on the axis, this picture is not the product that arrived. When tightening cable tension, the cable twists, risking breakage.

These work just fine for the run-of-the-mill, bulletproof Sturmey-Archer gear hub. I've had this on my 1958 Raleigh Sports with an SW hub for about six months. Considering the original was 56 years old before being replaced, this one should last a while too. Actually, the original hadn't even reached the end of its life; I was restoring the bike and had to take out the cable. Being that the bike was left outside for 20 years before I got it and I then rode it through the salty winter earlier, the original cable bolt had rusted together and it snapped when I tried to open it (took a lot of force). So yeah, unless it has a glaring defect like a crack, this should outlast me.

The link on my Brompton M6L folding bike (Older model, I know they stopped using Sturmeys a few years ago) broke when I went to change the rear innertube. It had corroded with age and snapped when I tried to unscrew it. This replaced it perfectly and now I'm not stuck in top gear anymore! The best part, the price of this thing is MANY times less than what the bike shop near here wanted to charge to replace it ($75!) Fast shipping, no hassle, 5 stars. My only complaint is that it's new! It makes the rest of the linkage look old!

There's not really that much to say about a tiny piece of hardware.Well, this is a legit piece. It fits. It holds tension. It's working just fine.

It is like the original equipment and difficult to replace with a substitute and probably cheaper. They tend to come unscrewed.

I am happy with the Sturmey Archer hub connector and shifter/cable product. They look authentic on my '72 Vintage Raleigh 3 Speed bike.
