I photograph mainly my son / his friends surfing and waves. The standard GoPro button made it cumbersome. I found other trigger grips, but at a much more expensive price. Quite frankly, this one works and works well. It took a couple minutes to assemble. I just looked at the pictures on Amazon and it was no problem. I get slammed around quite a bit by the waves. I've taken this thing out about eight times now and it's holding up to the abuse just fine. I also read complaints about rusting screws. I freshwater flush everything after use in saltwater. So far, no rust either. For the price, this one can't be beat. To buy the trigger grip I was looking at, I could buy eight of these. Money well spent.[UPDATE - May 3, 2019]I still stand by my original review. For the money, it's a good trigger grip. That said, I use mine all the time and in some rough conditions. As I've used it more, the arm that is supposed to depress the shutter button on the GoPro has developed flex. With the flex, it doesn't alway press the button when I want it to. I have found ways to work around it, but not as convenient and pulling the trigger. That said, for occasional use or a one-time vacation, without breaking the bank, this one should work well. If you're going to use it often, you may want to purchase more than one.

Purchased this for GoPro Hero5 Grip for use while snorkeling / scuba diving. This worked great and the trigger function is wonderful. I did have to look at the product pics to figure out the assembly, but once assembled the function worked really well. The GoPro is offset a bit to make the screeen easier to see and the trigger makes activation much easier. (The Trigger doesn't take a lot of force, test it first). Highly recommend for a hand grip.

I bought this to use with my brand new Hero 7 and almost lost it to the sea! I carelessly dropped this into the waves to test its floating ability while wading into the ocean and it sank like a rock. My family and I spent several frantic minutes feeling around in the very sandy water (and luckily we found it!)I realized while writing this review that the tripod inside is removable, and it then occurred to me to see if it would float without the tripod. It does! Barely. See the attached photos: one shows with tripod in and it sank to the bottom of the bucket, the other is with tripod removed and it just breaks the surface of the water.I didn't get a chance to test this in the ocean with the tripod removed but it seems to float in my bucket test. There were no instructions in the box and no indications that this would not float unless the tripod was removed. (Since it does actually float with the tripod removed, I increased my review from 2 to 3 stars.)Another issue is that the trigger lever itself can push the camera back so that the shutter button no longer lines up correctly. I found myself readjusting the camera several times. This can be mostly avoided by tightening the thumbscrew as tight as possible and not pulling the trigger too hard. Also, the trigger itself doesn't provide much of a click feeling so you kind of just have to trust that the picture was taken (or turn on the camera beeps).Another potential downside as mentioned in other reviews is that the screen is partially obscured by the trigger. Since the newer GoPros have touch screens, this can make it difficult to change some settings. One solution is to turn it upside down and the screen on the Hero 7 will reorient (assuming you do not have Landscape Lock turned on), but it's a little annoying.Other than that, the handle is sturdy and the trigger mechanism (mostly) works as long as the camera is positioned correctly and things are screwed in very tightly. An instruction sheet would be extremely helpful to indicate that the camera will not float without the tripod removed, and to explain all the different ways to put this together since there seem to be several different mounting positions.

I bought this for my recent trip to Maui due to a friend's recommendation. Here are my thoughts on it:PROS:- Trigger for turning the camera on is convenient so I can press the button a split second faster than usual (where I'd have to stretch one finger out to press the button)- Compatible with any action camera with the same mount, and I tested that this works for my GoPro Hero 6 as well as my Xiaomi Yi action cameras- Nice rubbery grip on the handle- The bottom cover unscrews to reveal a hollow compartment to store keys or something, it also has a flexible tripod inside the handle!- The flexible tripod is screwed inside the handle and can be unscrewed and re-screwed into the outside to act as a tripod, but the balancing act may be a little difficultCONS:- Was difficult to figure out how to put together at first to mount the GoPro -- my recommendation is to look at the picture on Amazon and make sure everything is pointed exactly the same way as the photo while screwing parts together- Due to the all plastic nature of the moving parts, it doesn't feel super solid and feels like it could break in time especially if pressing on the trigger too hard. But I think it should last at least a dozen trips or so, hopefully.- I feel like I have to press the trigger really hard to get the motion to extend to the button, and there isn't the nice tactile feedback one gets from pressing the button with a finger directlyThese cons are not really major cons but just being nitpicky. I think it's well worth the price for the convenience, even if it breaks after a dozen times. And maybe it won't! The plastic pieces are pretty thick.
