Got this strut separator for my garage and it works as intended. The two separate pieces can be tricky to handle, but once you get it set up, it does the job well. Better than older models but wish the pieces were connected. Still a good tool overall if you work on car suspensions.

The tool is made of hardened steel. It is the first time I see one with this design. It is very effective to spread the slot where the pinch bolt is. It has two sides. The curved side is 1/8" thick, si it will need the slot to be 1/8" and higher in order to be inserted. The other side (the flat one) is thicker. It is 13/64" thick.

While this tool works well for the intended job or opening the strut body for easy service, I would prefer to see that both sides were joined in some way. The way it is setup has one side with the alignment pins and the other with the threaded rod and 2 holes to receive the alignment pins. Nothing physically holds the 2 sides together, so when trying to put the tool in place it is easy to drop one side, or have it move before you can get tension on it. I also fear that once it goes in the toolbox the sides will somehow find their way to opposite deep corners of the toolbox. A big improvement over the older single tab style spreaders, but would greatly benefit from being joined.
