Great, handy little jeweler's pin vise. This really has lots of uses, not the least of which is using smaller diameter tools, such as gunsmith's files. I'm planning to use some gravers with it, and I can see other uses, as well.If you work with small diameter shaft tools (like gunsmithing tools) this will be a welcome addition to your toolbox.I find the grip comfortable, and the machine work very adequate. My only caveat was that the chroming of the tool does not look as though it will last.Good tool.

I'd probably be more inclined to give this 3.5 stars if I had the option, but let's round up to 4. This is a simple tool with a simple build and this specific iteration is definitely rough around the edges, which is immediately apparent when you grab the handle and find that it seems to be fully unfinished. On cheaper tools like this it's not terribly uncommon and, truth be told, when tools are cheap I oftentimes like being able to choose what finish to use on a tool handle without having to strip the original finish away. The quality isn't heirloom, obviously. I have a $100 set of Starrett pin vises and to put it bluntly this specific pin vise is no substitute for or equal to those Starretts but, at around 1/5 the price of a single Starrett from that set, one wouldn't expect it to be. I have mostly used it to aid in holding very small parts while working them, or to take very small parts to larger machines that would be unsafe to use while hand-holding the small part itself (tasks such as deburring or reducing the head diameter on a very small screw). I would not recommend it for micro drill bits, as I don't feel that ergonomics of the tool are suitable for that task unless you feel like breaking your bits. It's a niche tool but could be a welcome and low-cost addition to the toolkits of anybody who regularly works with very small parts.

I had something else in mind when I picked this item up, but what it turns out to be is not going to be very useful (for me anyway). It has two collets with it, and the threads of the head attachment for binding the collet are very weak and likely to strip or cross thread if one is not very careful when changing the collets. The ball-grip head is unfinished wood of some type - mine has a mar in it as if it was maybe knocked against something else during shipping - and although fits into the palm of my hand easily, it is a bit too rough as it is unfinished.I could see this being used in conjunction with a small eyeglasses screwdriver set, but as for any type of wood work - the collets are too small for anything but pencil led.I give it two stars: one for at least being "finishable", and one for maybe having some use for holding the smallest of pin-sized tools.
