Product Description

White tea is tea in its most natural state. It gets its name from the silvery-white hairs on the unopened buds of the Camellia sinensis plant and is the least processed varietal of tea. These tender, fragile, white downy buds are hand-plucked only a few days of the year and are monitored closely as the leaves are withered and dried.

Although called white tea, the tea itself is not white. When steeped, it retains a pale-yellow color and produces a delicate and faintly sweet tea with a light grassy flavor.

White tea is the essence of simplicity.

White Tea Health Benefits

Because white tea is unprocessed and unfermented, white tea retains higher levels of polyphenols. This gives white tea an advantage over other tea varietals, as it contains the highest levels antioxidants.

How to Steep White Tea

Steeping white tea is easy.

Simply heat fresh, filtered water to just short of boiling, to avoid “cooking” the delicate tea. Plan on about one teaspoon of tea or one tea bag per six-ounce cup. If using whole leaf tea, place tea in infusing basket or teapot. Once the water is heated, pour the water over the tea and steep.

When using tea bags, steep for 30-60 seconds, or 1-2 minutes for whole leaf tea.

Caffeine Content in White Tea

The caffeine content in white tea is approximately one-third the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar sized cup of coffee. On average, a six-ounce cup of white tea has approximately 20 milligrams of caffeine.

History

The exact origin of white tea is unclear; however, there are several stories as to how white tea came about. Some claim that white tea referred to time when impoverished Chinese villagers could not afford tea and simply boiled and served water. Others claim white tea was created when tea-makers tried to get an early start in the year by picking immature buds.

Regardless of the origin, white tea was known as the Emperor’s Tea during the Song Dynasty and was reserved solely for the royal court. Cakes of white tea were ground into a fine powder then whisked into water, oftentimes along with jasmine or spices. It was later during the Qing Dynasty that white tea was steeped in water.

Beautiful fragrant tea. I enjoy a fragrant "lighter" cup of tea. For this tea, I really liked that I could enjoy a 2nd and even a 3rd (12oz) cup. Of course the 1st cup was the strongest, but never bitter. Even if I have occasion to have a 3rd cup, it is definitely like water flavored with tea.. but it still has a beautifully perfumed jasmine scent to it that makes it very pleasant anyway. That 3rd cup for me is like the uncarbonated, hot version of flavored sparkling water ;)

Great tea! There's not very many sellers that mix jasmine with white tea instead of green, but for me it makes all the difference. It's a treat every time I have a cup. 😁

I really like this company and these products. You get 50 satchets and although the product is pretty powdery. You don't steep it for very long maybe about a minute, But the flavor is there and it's really nice to have on an evening to de-stress

I have celiac disease, and while I have had other tea brands in the past, all but one have been low quality, and none of them confirmed truly celiac-safe. I came across the Republic of Tea at a local grocery store of mine and haven't turned back. I get the tea bags and the loose-leaf tea.I've tried other variations of green tea from this brand, and I love them. This was my first time trying their white jasmine tea, and I have to say is pretty good. I was really excited to try their white jasmine because it has been so long since I have had it. It isn't as floral as other times I've had white jasmine tea at tea houses, but those tea houses were crazy expensive and I have no idea where they source their tea from. I turn to this every day, and it can be at any time of the day or night. It is soothing and always seems to be the perfect fix if I'm feeling a bit off. I'm impressed with the price, too. It may seem a bit pricey, but it could be more expensive, and the container does last longer than you think it would. If you want the best results when making it, you should have a kettle you can control the temperature on so you don't steep the tea in too hot water. If you don't have a kettle that allows you to do this, I would let the water cool just a little before steeping.

I’ve been trying to get off caffeine but miss certain teas. The fruity ones are good once in a while, but the earthy herbal teas with strong flavor I’ve missed. I found thyme tea as a good replacement for green, but have struggled with jasmine as it’s often married to green tea.Enter white jasmine tea. It’s potency can be upped by letting it sit longer, unlike some herbal teas that just gas out of flavor after a certain time, or become to fruity or acidic for what I’m looking for, especially in the morning. The floral, perfumed vapor hits first, followed by the sweet earthy taste. I left my bag in the whole time and ended my cup with the slightly bitter taste I’d been seeking for my tea that I missed from green and black teas (sounds wierd I know).11/10 recommend! Perfect start to my day!!!

Good flavor...expected it to be a little stronger, somewhat weak - and I leave the bag in my teacup after it's steeped and still is weak flavor.
