About this item

  • Ingredients: Oolong Tea Leaves.
  • Toasty texture, fragrant aroma, and sweet, high-bounce taste similar to nectarines and peaches.

The Phoenix Mountains (Fenghuang Shan) in Guangdong, China are home to famous varietals of oolong teas. In our last visit to this area, we studied at least seven different varietals. Notable and popular among these varietals is “Mi Lan” or “Honey Orchid.” Our name for it is Royal Phoenix.
The Phoenix teas are known as ‘Dancong’, which refers to the unique single trunk structure of the plant. Many other varietals grow in multi-trunk structures.
Another unique aspect of the Phoenix varietals is that the newly sprouted tip evolves into a large, full leaf very quickly. The twisted leaf oolong processing style, which requires long leaves, is therefore often used on Phoenix teas.
Making Royal Phoenix oolong involves precise rolling and baking techniques to fully develop its characteristic texture and fragrance. The roaster is a tunnel roaster (similar to a coffee roaster) that rotates, while the leaves are tumbled with convection heat.
An area within Fenghuang Shan is Wudong mountain, home to old growth tea plants. Sourcing tea from Wudong is a challenge due to its popularity and limited availability, but we are hoping to start bringing you selective teas of that region also.
Our grower of Royal Phoenix is a second generation tea farmer. After inheriting the business from his father, he has been steadily making progress towards better agricultural standards and improving the processing factory.

Delicious. It was on sale, so I tried it and was pleasantly surprised. Wonderful aroma; if you like light, green oolong tea, this is for you! I’d buy it again. 👍🏻

Leaves are nice but not very flavorful.

The rating for the tea is 5 The tea is unusual because the leaves are long and black instead of green ball gunpowder shape but the taste and flavor are great. The rating for delivery is 1 though. As one can see by the photo provided by the deliverer, the item was thrown over a 6' fence and , landed on a concrete patch. The lid of the can is dented, consequently

Tao never disappoints! Flavors are always perfection, aromas are unbeatable, and we love the tins and labels. Perfect description of each tea along with proper steeping instructions. I love it has a scale on each label that shows the caffeine strength in too!

This is the best oolong I've tasted from home. The flavor is rich and soothing. It has a softness to it but very distinctive. The leaves are full and uses a small amount to make a great cup of tea. Highly recommended!

The reason for not getting 5 stars is because I've tried other loose leaf teas such as the Gunpowder one and a teaspoon of gunpowder gives you 3 infusions of jam packed flavor and after the third if you try to do a fourth infusion there is no flavor. So I have to say this. 1 tsp of this tea is nice for a cup or so. The 2nd infusion is like 50% flavor of the 1st. So I can't be to unhappy about that. But I do know I am going to be brewing this tea using 2 teaspoons instead of one. Because I like to have full flavor in my cuppa. And for two infusions. Anyways it's not a bad tea. It does have fruity notes to it and reminds me of the mountain grown white tea's.

This is not your builder's brew. Don't pour boiling water on it, let it sit in your cup for 5 minutes and expect it to taste as fabulous as advertised. You'll get a mostly malty slightly fruity oolong, but this can be so much tastier than that! For a single cup, a heaping teaspoon or two, steeped in just below boiling water for 30 seconds - 1 minute is optimal. The stone fruit flavors just jump out. And as it cools, the flavor gets even stronger! This is fabulous as iced tea, in fact. You can get 3 tasty steeps out of each serving if you do a slightly longer re-steep for each pour.I've tried several Royal Phoenix Oolongs and this is the first I've found with both the great peachy flavor *and* a reasonable price (plus it comes in a killer double lid tin!).
