I thought all copper mesh would be the same, but this particular item is thicker and sturdier than others I've purchased. It holds its shape if you plan on using it for applications other than stuffing a hole, and it doesn't fray easily when you cut it.I used this to create an overhanging slug barrier on my plant containers (by pinning it down on the inside of the pot rim with thumbtacks and stretching over the edge of the container to act like an umbrella all the way around the edge of the container). Wrapping plant containers with copper mesh won't deter slugs unless you create a mesh lip. I've seen slugs crawl over copper mesh before, but they can't crawl upside down and over the mesh, they drop off like flies!

I was having a critter and birds eating my tomatoes and I found an article online touting this as a solution. I ordered it and some clips and I got to eat more of my tomatoes than the critters and birds.

What a joy this item has turned out to be. Confirmed that it does deter snails and slugs.I pinned down the copper medium around my newly planted vegetable seedlings. Previously I would find the new shoots of freshly planted baby vegetables nibbled away at the edges a day or so after planting. And I do not use snail killer pellets due to the threat they are to dogs. Yet now, using this new copper barrier, my seedlings have been now growing untouched by slugs and snails since the ten days ago that I installed the copper barrier around the vegetable planting area.
