About this item

  • Hydrophilic fumed silica, also known as cabosil or colloidal silica, is a thixotropic additive thickening agent that lets you customize the viscosity of epoxy, polyester resin, paint and more
  • Epoxy thickened with this fine silica powder won’t sag or slump, ideal for vertical and overhead surfaces. Easy to stir into mixed resin and hardener, and easy to sand upon full cure
  • It creates a smooth, strong epoxy compound ideal for bonding, filleting, and filling. Epoxy or polyester resin thickened with silica can be used to fill holes, cracks, and gaps
  • Combine this versatile filler with TotalBoat epoxy and Glass Micro Balloons or Milled Glass Fibers for easy sanding and additional strength
  • Use with gelcoat, paints, acrylics, silicones, rubber, urethanes, adhesives and other materials to prevent sagging. Available in 1 Quart and 5 Quart sizes

TotalBoat Silica Thickener is an extremely fine micron thickening powder. Also called Cabosil or fumed silica, it’s mostly (but not exclusively) used as a thickening agent or additive for epoxy resin and polyester resin. When added to mixed resin components, it creates a smooth, peanut-butter consistency compound or putty that won’t sag when applied to vertical or overhead surfaces. Epoxy thickened with fumed silica makes a great bonding and filleting adhesive, and is ideal for filling cracks, gaps, holes, and voids.
Use alone or combine with other fillers. Example: after blending with mixed resin and harder, add TotalBoat Glass Microballoons to create an easy-to-sand fairing compound. Or, add TotalBoat Milled Glass Fibers for even more strength and sag resistance. Epoxy mixed with TotalBoat Silica Thickener cures extremely hard and abrasion resistant. This thixotropic thickening agent can also be used with paint, gelcoat, silicones, acrylics and other materials. Perfect for resin art and crafting.
Tips: Always mix a small trial batch of resin and additives to fine tune viscosity, and to assess any impact to epoxy working properties (pot life). Always wear proper safety protection when working with epoxy resin and fillers / additives. Be sure to wash your hands and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water afterwards. Compare to West System 406 filler, System Three White Silica Thickener, Cab-O-SIL, and others. All TotalBoat products are formulated for great results and great value. When it comes to epoxy, we know what works.

Follow instructions, doesn't take much for small amounts of resin. Wear a respirator micro fine particles. Works as intended to thicken resin

I work with epoxy on a regular basis, and there are times you need a thicker consistency. This product fits the bill perfectly. I expected a great result because TotalBoat products are always high quality and consistent.

TotalBoat is legit, and yet another product you can trust -- this thickens up your resin and makes it less flow, can help with pouring, different molds, and keeps in from running out of tricky spots.

Working with various boat products I deal with paints, varnishes, epoxy resins and all from different companies. They all have their own thinners (for when you need it thin), but when you need something thicker, this stuff does the trick. The Total Boat name was the first thing that sold me on it.I've worked with their products for several years. What I REALLY love is the fact that this can be used across the board.Very handy!

I've never been disappointed in a TotalBoat product and this continues the trend. It honestly does exactly what you'd expect. Mixing it into an epoxy resin makes it thicker and more viscous which is great when you need a slower flowing epoxy mix.

I don't know how to give a review other than my husband said it worked as you would expect epoxy resin to work when using it.
