I wanted to make a small, stand-alone trackball controller for retro gaming, and this worked out well. As others have noted, it's doesn't have that much inertia, and so doesn't free spin for a very long, but it works fine for Marble Madness, Missile Command, and as the ball acts as a rotary spinner, Arkanoid and Tempest. The wiring harness has leads for three mouse buttons, but no free gnd lead. But there is an exposed VSS pin on the bottom of the trackball itself, which is easy to solder a lead to for the -ve connection for the buttons.I could only get 2 buttons to register with RetroArch on Mac, but all three work fine with RetroArch on Windows - and that means that Missile Command works as it should.

Just got it in, works perfectly. Perfect size for a countertop cabinet. better build quality than the el-cheapo light-up trackball in the black housing (both the PS/2 and USB version) To use the buttons, you will need to tap in to the black wire, on the included harness and daisy chain to each button for your ground. If you need a half-decent trackball for a smaller space or panel, this is what you need.

Seems pretty good for the price. Took me a bit to figure out the 3 wires (white, purple, blue), so I'll post the info here. The wires represent the equivalent of mouse buttons:- white = left button- purple = middle button- blue = right buttonThe corresponding pins on the bottom of the PCB *are* marked M,R,L but it's not obvious how they're intended to work. To use them, I'd need to connect a pushbutton between each button a VSS (gnd).Since there's no free VSS wire, my best bet is to use a ground connection on in my cabinet. Barring that (since I'm planning on using it as a stand-alone controller) is to tap into the wiring harness. The wire next to the M (blue) wire, which is *also* blue, is VSS. CAREFULLY splicing into that wire and running it to one terminal of each button *should* get me what I need.

My previous 3" Trackball didn't work very well. I replaced with this brand and it worked perfect and still going strong.

Recently bought one of these from a popular arcade game hobby company... We'll call them Lame Room Solutions :) Anyway the one they sent me was dead on arrival, and they refused to replace it, seemingly because they're scammers selling broken / damaged parts. This item shipped quickly and is exactly like the picture. Plugged it into my MacBook pro to test and it was immediately recognized as a mouse and worked. Plugged it into my Raspberry Pi 4 next, it was also recognized as a mouse and setup just like any other trackball from there.Worth mentioning that this one doesn't spin long, it sort of works like a skateboard wheel with old bearings. It'll spin but it doesn't "glide" like you might have experienced with a coin-op Golden Tee game in the past. Still, does the job and (at least in my case) trackball games on MAME work really well!I'm really glad I found this listing, because it bailed me out of a tough spot after being abandoned by Lame Room Solutions. Thank you!

Works great. Have USB connection to my raspberry pi arcade which sees it as a mouse input. This is not lighted and requires no additional power.

It worked perfectly for the Pi and the PC for Golden Tee, Shuffle Shot, etc. Then all of sudden the the usb connection wasn't recognized. Frown. Good value for a trackball. I had it for about 3 months and rarely used it. It was mostly played with on initial setup day.
