I have been pretty surprised with this antenna. I use it as a ham radio operator for 10 meters. I had to trim it down to around 46 inches and got the swr around 1.3 at 28.500. My first contact with the antenna was from Oklahoma City to Brazil where I was given a 5/9 signal report. I also have had several QSOs while mobile to the east and west coast. So pretty impressive. The whip is also somewhat flexible so when I drive under my car port it will hit the top of the carport but not have any issues bending out of the way. Works really well and would recommend.

great antenna but NOT a plug`n`play product. you have to know about tuning antennas.I used a nanovna.since I couldn't find much professional information about this antenna here, here my tuning report:I just tuned it for CB, I can always make it shorter, longer will be difficult. The bad reviews about this antenna are either people having received a defective antenna or ones that have no clue about antenna tuning and were thinking this is a plug`n`play product.@1203mm = 26.900@1195mm = 26.985 SWR: 1.14@1189mm = 27.048 SWR: 1.13@1178mm = 27.192 SWR: 1.1426.835 = SWR: 2.0026.965 = SWR: 1.6027.405 = SWR: 1.4627.615 = SWR: 2.00go on a open field to tune this antenna, on top of a hill without any obstructions, houses, trees, buildings or anything around it. not in a valley nor in a ditch!I just made successful contact with "cry baby" in atlanta georgia and "randy" from alabama on 27.205 (CB channel 20). I am located out of the dominican republic nord-coast and have this installed on my car, using a stryker sr-94hpc transceiver. that's distance of 2125km's.when I keyed the mike I saw the displayed voltage on the radio drop from 13.7V to 13.1V. I will change out the stock cabling that the radio came with.I was very impressed! yesterday I made some contacts with the antenna being tuned for 26.5 (original) having terrible swr.

I bought the Browning/Tram NMO fender mount at the same time I bought this antenna. I installed the fender mount on my 1989 Chevy pickup and just left the entire coax length intact. I have a big coil of cable hidden under the dash because I didn't want to chop off the PL259 connector and shorten the coax. Sometimes this causes problems either with the ground shielding not being solderable or SWR issues.Once I had the mount installed I looked at the instructions on the bag the antenna came in and noted the length I'd probably need for the stinger. I wanted to tune it for 27.205mhz (channel 20 on the CB radio) so I split the difference between two of their figures mentioned and it got me really close. I cut it to 46" and the result was that the SWR on channel 1 was 1.0 and the SWR on channel 20 was 1.3. So I cut off another 1/4" meaning the stinger was 45 3/4" long. Now the SWR on channel 20 is 1.0 and channel 1 is 1.1. Perfect. I did take the wire wheel to the bottom 1 inch of the antenna to clean the black paint off of it where it goes down into the mount. I'm sure this is unnecessary, but I wanted a better electrical contact with the base coil where it mounts. This isn't rocket science, and I am happy that the antenna was so easy to tune. How well does it work? I have no idea yet. I have not taken it out into the field with a buddy to compare how it gets out compared to the Wilson 1000 magnet mount antenna I have. I will update my review with a distance comparison once I've done that. But I'm hearing local traffic like the truckers just fine. I get come-backs when I ask for a radio check.Best of all, I think these fender mount setups are the best looking. They might not perform as well as puck mounting a 9 foot whip to your roof, but you'll avoid a LOT of headaches having a reasonable 4 foot antenna sticking off of your fender compared to running a mag mount on the roof or a long whip. This antenna gives REASONABLE performance with all of the other boxes ticked in terms of the look and not hitting every Mc Donald's drive-thru awning you pull into. This is the way to go if you want a no BS installation and you want to retain use of your pickup bed for a topper or whatever else.

This is a fairly well-built antenna. It seems to be a little thin so it has a fairly narrow bandwidth. And it seems as though it may be a little temperamental in placement. Best placed in the middle of a large area like the middle of the top of the cab. Make sure you check SWR with an SWR meter or antenna analyzer at your mounting location in an open area. I installed this antenna in a steel building shop, trimmed and tuned with an antenna analyzer. Then pulled the vehicle out into an open area and the SWR was all off. Luckily it was long so I could trim and tune again. The but chart provided with the antenna seems to be a little off so cut and tune to your specific mounting location. I was able to tune to the center of the band at VSWR of 1:1 with the band edges at 1.5:1 so it is clearly acceptable as a CB antenna. The only negative is that in shipping they took the antenna and folded it over into a box that was too short. This, of course, bent the steel whip and it took me about a half an hour trying to straighten the spring steel out.
