Product description:
This product is specially designed for measuring moisture in honey. At the same time, the value of the syrup with high sugar can be measured. The accuracy of the product is much higher than similar products on the market. And corrected the measurement error of the product. The product carries a stable, calibrated liquid with a special configuration. The calibration liquid is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly solution.
The refractometer is an optical precision instrument that determines the density of a liquid by means of the index of refraction.
This measuring instrument is precise and easy to use. The measuring instrument is precise and simple to use.
Measuring Range: 0-90% Brix, Resolution: 0.5% Brix
Easy to use: Place 2 drops of the sample on the main prism, close the plate and look through the viewing window to read the Brix value ;
After applying the sample to the prism, the special optics of the refractometer generate opposing light-dark fields.
Precision Measurement: Sharp dividing line (blue-white), good readability (daylight recognizable), adjustable eyepiece for sharpness adjustment.
Accessories: Calibration liquid, 4 pipette, cleaning cloth , screwdriver and carton.

Unlike all others I have purchased, cows without a case. As a moderately delicate optical instrument, it’s not going to last long like that. So now I have to faff about with a foam liner and cardboard box. Seriously doubt I can find a suitable case that doesn’t cost more than the instrument. Most likes will be returning.

Works Great for the price

The focus is nice and the line is easy to read as long as you have bright enough natural light to point it at. I was able to calibrate it with distilled water and it holds calibration and its reading on other items is consistent. I don't have anything else to compare it against though, so I can't say how accurate it actually is.

This worked very well for a maple syrup boil.

I decided to replace a broken Hydrometer with the TRZ Refractometer to use for my small Maple Syrup operation. The reviews on this unit were mostly positive so I ordered the TRZ. It arrived quickly, well packaged and in perfect condition. Even though the instructions state that the unit is calibrated at the factory, I used distilled water to check calibration. Re-zeroed it without any issues. It comes with a small Jeweler's screwdriver to fit the calibration screw. While boiling the sap down, I used the TRZ refractometer to test the sugar content. Takes all the guess work out of the equation. Once the reading reached 67 Brix on the Refractometer, the boil was stopped. The TRZ refractometer allowed for pefect focusing for a clear concise reading. Couple of drops of syrup on the glass plate, close the cover, hold the Refractometer up to a light source and look through the eyepiece. It could not be any easier. My Maple Syrup came out perfect. The TRZ Refractometer does come with a nice soft Satin type material storage pouch. Once cleaned and dried, I decided to place it back into the foam insert and original box for safe storage. Most likely will not need it again until next year's sugaring season. Extremely satisfied with the TRZ 0-90% Brix Refractometer. I can highly recommend it.

I own a food company and often times I'll need to check the sugar levels in things like fruit musk, spot checking sugar levels in finish products before/after bottling and you can also use it on farms to test the sap in plants/fruits to insure ripeness. Pretty straight forward tool, but you need to calibrate it often for the best results. I personally do it each time I am going to start testing because I may have to show the results to a lab or the City/State etc. However, it does depend on your uses as to how often you need too. This device does not come with any calibration liquids, but you can get some from online pretty easy. I would advise you to use industry standard calibration liquids as store bought items like honey, water, juice, etc can have different sugar levels depending on location, age of fruits used in this batch, processing changes, etc.If you enjoy fish tanks this would also be a great little tool to use, but I don't know enough about them to explain why. (My EX used one for his salt water tanks.)

I ordered the TRZ Refractometer to understand what the sugar content of fruit juices is rather than guessing at it. For my pomegranate tree I discovered the sugar level this year is very low, which helped my adjust my recipe for making jelly and syrup. It also tells me I need to looking into the soil around the tree to see if it needs amending in order to produce a higher sugar level (that will be a winter research project).Higher sugar levels lead to an increase in the refractive index, which means you can see the level of sugar by using a few drops on this TRZ Refractometer. The sugar bends the sunlight (use this in sunlight) which easy appears when you look into the refractometer.The refractometer was calibrated when it arrived. It's easy to calibrate using the included screw driver. The eye piece is adjustable and I got a very sharp image inside the refractometer. The refractometer is easy to clean, which is important since any contamination could give you incorrect results.I tried to use my phone to show the scale inside, but I had some problems trying to hold the refractometer in one hand and the phone in the other - the seller's photos are accurate. This refractometer has really helped me understand the sugar levels in juices before I start to make jams, jellies and syrups which is why I highly recommend it and give it five stars.

I got this refractometer to measure the moisture content of the honey my bees make. This is much different than a brewing refractometer, as it only measures in Brix, but goes all the way up to 90 (much more than what you would need for brewing beer, wine or mead.) The product is well made, much like the quality of many other refractometers I've used in the past. The prism slide cover moves well and covers the glass thoroughly. Adjusting the focus was simple, and it stays where you focus it. The scale is clear and easy to read. The instructions it comes with are simple, and translated into many different languages. The English translation is very broken at times, but if you are using a refractometer, you probably know how to use it already, or know how to use Google or Youtube to look up instructions. I used a few drops of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) as a calibration fluid, rather than distilled water like the instructions suggested. Good EVOO usually has a Brix reading of about 71-72. Right out of the box, it came in at 71.5, which was perfect. I then took samples of some honey from the spring, and some from this fall, and was able to determine the moisture content without any issues. The product came with a small carrying pouch, a screwdriver to adjust the calibration, and a few disposable droppers. Overall, this is a quality product at a good price.
