Although I did open the box and inventory the contents (everything was there) I watched the video before I attempted to set it up. The instructions were clear and the kayak took shape easily and quicklya few practice builds and off to the lake. Set it up at the boat ramp without a problem - actually in the water within 20 minutes of parking my Toyota Yaris. Very happy with the performance on the water, handles well even with the wakes of passing bass boats, and there is plenty of room to carry what I need for a fun day fishing!

I took the Kayak out to a nearby lake. The kayak is sturdy, and it floats. Fold out and fold up are easy. Here’s what I hated:1. The sides of the kayak are sharp, so while paddling I would occasionally scrape myself on the edge of the kayak. It peeled some of my thumb skin off. Maybe duct taping the edges will fix this? Both my hands are a bit sliced up and stinging after an hour on the lake. Not happy.2. The foot rest is AWFUL. No matter which holes I used, how many times I situated it, how careful I was, as soon as I put a single toe on it, it would fly out of the holes. Completely unusable. I wanted the pro specifically for the foot rest and so I could bring my dog (weight).I still like the kayak, I’m going to modify the foot rest and try to tape up the sharp edges. I’m just surprised that they didn’t address these problems before producing and selling the kayaks.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I haven’t taken it in the water yet… I have the Pro. They sent me the 2025 instead of the 2024, so maybe that’s why it was so easy.I set it up, on my first go, in less than 5 minutes. It wasn’t difficult. I’ll come back and finish my review after I take it out this weekend (:

Educate yourself about what you are getting. This kayak is for calm water only!Maiden voyage at Lake Maloya, Sugarite, NM was a success. We kakayed for 2 decades on sit ontop Yak Boards by Ocean Kayak and still use them, so here is a comparison. We added this one to take the 13 year old grandson, so we wanted one that is light weight and stores and transports easily. I have been watching this kayak online and like the improvements to the 2023 model. This 60-something grandma can assemble it easily and it takes just a few minutes. Leverage and technique are more important then strength. Not quite as stable in the water as the sit ontop, but easy to get used to. Once I adjusted the rudder depth, it was just as manuverable as the yak board. The seat is comfortable enough for a couple of hours on the water, but I would add a towel for a longer ride. We have the upgraded seats in the yak board so we are spoiled there.I thought I would miss the integrated cup holder, but a water bottle stays put in the space between the seat and the side wall.I was impressed with how dry it was inside. Yes, some water splashes inside, but much drier than yak board. A ziplock baggie with snacks and drinks would work well (we snack on our rides, that is half the fun). We keep our phones and keys in life vest pockets. (A lanyard style pouch would work also)We put in and out on a concrete boat ramp, which caused a few scuff marks on the bottom. With the thickness of the plastic I doubt it will have any effect long term and is normal wear. We have it on the yak board also. The foot rest seems a little weak and bent a little, we many need to replace it long term, but it worked well enough. The convenience is amazing, 28 lbs vs 40 on the yak board, and much easier to transport to the shore line and on the highway especially.Grandson had fun in it also with no problems. We liked it well enough that we ordered a second one immediately so we can take the 17 year old also.We also intend to take these instead of the yak boards on camping trips for just the 2 of us, just incase we want to kayak without taking the hard plastic ones. It is amazingly convenient to just have in the pickup. The paddle (taken apart) fits into the rolled up kayak.Overall, this is a great option for a relaxed day on the water, as long as you understand the compromise of practicality over professional performance (performance is great, just not racing quality) for a great price. Great for beginners and those of us who like calm water.
