This light gets very bright for its size. The fan doesn’t turn on at low brightness levels until the light heats up. The diffuser works well to counter the multiple shadows these kind of lights produce when bare. The controls are relatively easy to use (very similar to almost every other light like this). One quirk that I don’t like is that when you slide the power switch into the on position it doesn’t turn on until you also rotate the CCT knob. Normally that sort of two step power on is used when the device has a push to turn on button and helps prevent accidental activations in bags. But that doesn’t make sense for this light because its power switch is a slide on / slide off style that can’t really accidentally activate.The colors are all accurate and bright. Another minor miss is that the light does not support magenta/green shift adjustment in CCT mode. This means that as the leds age you won’t be able to compensate to keep the light consistent. Build quality is entirely plastic but it feels ok, not as sturdy as some other lights in this same size/form factor I own but not bad. Battery life is as advertised and is pretty decent, especially when used at lower power levels.Overall I would say there are better lights in this size/form factor, BUT this light is half the cost of those so for value it’s hard to argue against this light.

The great strides made in portable lighting shine brightly in this tiny new light.I was impressed with how much light it emits--and how long the battery lasts--for such a portable, pocketable light.Initially, I couldn't figure out why, when I flipped the "on" switch, no light came on. Then I discovered by reading the manual (when all else fails, consult the instructions!), that I needed to twist the top knob a few clicks to get the light to come on. (Apparently, it's a power-saving method to prevent the light from accidentally getting switched on in your bag.)After that, BOOM! Bright lights, big city! (Sorry. An old and obscure movie reference.) The point is, this thing cranks out the lumens--even being quite bright just at the 1% setting. And thanks to the plastic diffusion cover, the light can be soft and flattering.Like many of these modern lights, it comes with a host of "effects"--from cop cars to lightning to paparazzi. However, I'm not sure how much I'll use these effects (or how convincing they would be) in a video. BUT I do like how easy it is to adjust the color temperature of the light or the actual color of the light. (I like this because some times it's just nice to use a light like this to create a little "pop of color" in the background of your video frame.)Ulanzi did a good job with this light. I haven't pushed it hard enough or long enough yet to get the fan to kick in, but I understand the fan does generate enough sound that it could be distracting if the light were attached to the top of your camera. But I tend to avoid placing lights like this front and center on my camera...especially when pointing it a people, since it can both be very distracting and off putting (even if the light is fairly soft). Plus, IMO, a blast of light from right in the middle of the camera is not always the most flattering.Bottom line, a fine BRIGHT, tiny, versatile light that I know will come handy in my video life, both professionally and personally.

Everything about this light is remarkable. When I first tried it, I decided not to look at the manual, just to see how complicated the user interface was—and it took a few tries to get what I was trying to do. But, within a few minutes I had sorted it all out. And the manual (I’m one of those people that read the entire manual for pretty much everything) does a good job of explaining everything.Why do I write “remarkable?” — well, let’s start with the amount of light output, coming from something that you can almost hide in your hand. With the clip on (using magnets) diffuser, you get a fairly even spread of bright light, at both an intensity and a temperature that you can easily control. All the way from 1% to 100%, and a wider Kelvin range than I am used to, even in larger COB spotlights.It’s got 20 scenes, which, as a still photographer are completely useless to me, but I suppose for video, some of the effects would be useful. The RGB range is about what I’d expect, but again, it’s got a surprising amount of output, and again, you get complete dimming on whatever you dial up.The small display shows battery charge, brightness, color temperature, or whatever scene you’re set to—pretty much everything you need to know.My one complaint is the need to use an Allen key (included) to lock the small pivot attachment (the device has a slot to attach this, rather than a built in threaded hole, although there is a second, really tiny attachment that is just a brass threaded hole). Rather than the Allen key, a small knob would not add much size, and would mean you don’t have to keep track of the separate key just to change the angle. This lamp is light enough, that a really small flat knob would hold it plenty well.Battery life is also surprisingly good. I don’t think that even 5 years ago a lamp this small, that has this much run time, would have been possible—the advancements both in LED technology and rechargeable cells just keep coming.Build quality and the materials used are also very promising. I’m impressed!
