This set gives you both a U-lock and a chain lock, which is great for extra security. I recently saw a recommendation to use two different types of locks since bike thieves often carry tools for just one type. Not sure if it really works, but it might make someone move on to an easier target. It’s probably good enough for mid-range bikes, but for expensive models, I wouldn’t fully rely on it—power tools can still get through. The same key system is convenient, but if you lose one, you lose access to both locks, so keep spares in a safe place. The U-lock is sturdy but a bit small for some bike frames, and the chain isn’t the thickest out there. It’s also a bit bulky to carry, so not the best for those who want a lightweight option.✔ Pros:Two different locks for extra securityU-lock feels sturdy, and the chain adds flexibilitySix identical keys, so losing one isn’t a disasterWeather-resistant materials✘ Cons:Not the strongest option for high-theft areasSame key for both locks—convenient but riskier if lostChain length could be longer for bigger bikesThis review takes a look at the Bike Lock 2 Sets U Lock Sold Secure Silver 15mm Shackle made by Via Velo.

Got this for the piece of mind when i go grocery shopping on my bike because it looked like it came out of fort knox.First impression is it's heavy and like most people I associate a heavy hand feel with quality.Installing the shackle holder on my bike frame while not tool free was easy enough and it holds the shackle while I'm riding which means one less thing in my bag/basket. The chain on the other hand has to go in the aforementioned bag or basket. Since I'm not joining any races the weight doesn't matter but if I had to guess its probably between 5-8 pounds total additional weight.I'm no "lockpicking lawyer" but if that youtube channel has taught me anything is that thieves are criminals of opportunity and the easier it is to take your bike the more likely it's going to get nabbed. The shackle itself is not the thinnest I've seen but its definitely not the bulkiest but the chain lock is beefy so I find myself prioritizing the chain lock through the frame/rear wheel to a bike lock area and attaching it and then using the front shackle for my frame and front wheel. I know this isn't "theft proof" but it gives me the piece of mind that maybe they'll look elsewhere from my hoopty cruiser bike.Criticisms: I already mentioned the weight (its chonky) but I didn't bring up that it rattles. The chain rattles in my bag or basket a bit but the shackle I can't not hear it. Like it's not "loud" its just there and since I know it's there I hear it, I think I'll get used to it but I thought maybe I had improperly installed it but I've double checked.Bonus Praise: The keys, so many keys! I'm not saying I lose keys but bike locks are an outlier for me as I've misplaced by lock keys once before and it's frustrating. I love how many extra keys came with this.Bottom line: There's higher security options out there but this is a better option than I can find in any of my big box stores. That said it comes at the expense of weight, convenience, and a bit of road noise that you'll get used to.

These are some seriously heavy-duty, high-quality bike locks! I am extremely impressed with these. They are sleek and attractively designed as well as super tough and made to last! Love that I can use just one key to operate both locks – makes it easy on me. I don’t live in a high-crime area, so the level of security these locks provide works great for me. I have complete peace of mind locking up my bike with these locks.

The Via Velo Bike Lock Set is an excellent choice for those looking for strong, reliable bike security without breaking the bank. The 15mm U-lock feels sturdy and well-built, while the 8mm chain lock adds an extra layer of protection, perfect for securing both the frame and wheels. One of the best features is the same key system, which makes it super convenient—no need to fumble with multiple keys. The set includes six identical keys, so you always have a backup. Both locks have a solid, heavy-duty feel, and the Sold Secure Silver rating gives extra peace of mind when locking up in higher-risk areas. The U-lock size (9x4.5 inches) works well for most bikes, though those with larger frames may find it a bit tight. The 2.96ft chain is flexible enough to wrap around various structures while still providing a strong deterrent. For the price, this is a fantastic value, offering great security and durability. If you're looking for a sturdy, well-designed bike lock set, this one is hard to beat!

Problem: I have used an OnGuard Lock for my Trek FX3 Disc since 2018. It has provided good service as a combination lock. Despite thefts of accessories like air pumps and lights, my bike remains secure. However, the lock has deteriorated over time. One of the combination lock rings frequently falls off. While I can temporarily fix it, it was advisable to get a new lock to avoid being without it and having to walk home.Solution: Via Velo Bike 2 Lock Sets: U Lock plus Chain LockThis 2-lock system has a level 7 security rating. It is sturdier than my OnGuard Lock. I am not familiar with keyed systems, but having six keys covers me if I lose one.Pros:• Easy Locking: The 14mm x 7.5-inch U shackle allows quick and secure locking.• Heavy-Duty Chain: 8mm alloy steel chain with hardened zinc alloy cylinder for robust security.• Protective Cover: High-quality fabric wrapping prevents scratches and rust.• Versatile Use: Suitable for bikes, e-bikes, scooters, motorcycles, and more. I also have an e-scooter as well as my bike.• Universal Compatibility: Works with all types of bikes and scooters.• Mounting Bracket: Conveniently mounts the U Lock to the bike frame.Cons: NoneExperience: I bike year-round and save long rides for summer. In urban areas, my front basket and rear panniers are great for shopping. Many retail stores lack sufficient bicycle racks, and some designs do not work with standard locks. I want to see how often I use the U Lock versus the Chain Lock based on rack compatibility.Bottom-Line: The 2 Via Velo Bike Locks offer an improvement in security and durability compared to my previous lock. The combination of the U Lock and Chain Lock provides flexibility in different locking situations.

Via Velo rates this security lock as a seven. The categories are Level 1-4 forStandard Security, Level 5-8 for Extra Security and Level 9-10 for Maximum Security. The keys are zip tied in a bag to the shackle of the U-lock but the zip tie is so tight that there is hardly any room to try and cut the tie without marking the shaft of the U-lock. Be careful removing it.The lock is robust. You are getting two locks in one, the U-lock and a chain/shackle lock. The chain has a braided fabric over it and also, it has a nice little cover for the keyhole to prevent debris from going into it. You get the mounting hardware plus you get a whopping six keys so there is no excuse for losing your keys. Six keychain key tags are also included so that you can attach them to the keys and mark that it is for this lock as a key identifier. If that is not enough, there is a Key Guard Program. Just take note of your key code and you can always order replacement keys. All keys are keyed alike so any key will open both the chain lock as well as the U-lock. Use both the U-lock and chain together or use them piecemeal depending on your security requirements. The chain and lock allow you to use them in tandem or you can even secure two separate areas of your bike. The lock is very robust and I would hazard a guess that its security strength would match any of its competitors on the market. The lock commands a fairly hefty price at just under $100 but it's better than a stolen bike. You need to invest a few dollars for robust security and not have something that will attract thieves for an easy theft. This will certainly serve as a deterrent. This lock has the main components of a strong theft deterrent system and I would recommend it.

I bought this Via Velo Bike Lock Set for my son's electric bike and Vespa, and I absolutely love it! Right out of the box, it feels solid, well-built, and extremely secure. If you need serious protection for your ride, this set is a must-have.What Stands Out:- U-Lock & Chain Combo – You get two locks in one set! The 15mm U-lock is heavy-duty and perfect for locking up the frame, while the 8mm chain lock adds extra security by securing the wheels or an additional point.-Durable & Tough – The hardened alloy steel makes this lock resistant to cutting and drilling. It’s definitely not something that thieves can break easily!-6 Keyed-Alike Keys – One of the best features! No need to fumble around with different keys – all six keys work for both locks. Super convenient!-Scratch-Proof Design – The soft fabric cover on the chain prevents scratches on the bike and protects against rust. A nice touch!-Versatile Use – This isn’t just for bikes! You can use it on e-bikes, motorcycles, scooters, skateboards, gates, BBQs, and more.Things to Keep in Mind:-It’s Heavy – But that’s a good thing! The weight gives it a premium, high-security feel, and I’d rather have peace of mind than a flimsy lock.Final Thoughts:This Via Velo lock set is worth every penny. My son feels secure leaving his bike outside, and I don’t have to worry about theft. He has previously had 2 very expensive bikes stolen, If you want a strong, reliable, and easy-to-use lock system, this is the one to get! Highly recommend! 🚲🔒🔥

My old (cheapo) u lock is well old and I fear not much use left as the locking mechanism is very rusty and loose. While a mid level lock set (by manufacturers rating of 7/10) it is definitely an upgrade in quality from my current lock. I usually use a combination of u lock for frame with cable lock for front wheel to frame. Both locks in covered in order to protect bike from scratches and chain from rust. The locking mechanism for the chain lock has a cover to protect from elements.Description says the u lock is compact in size and may not fit in every location for all bicycle sizes but I find that is the case with most u locks. This u lock is actually slightly longer than my current lock and I have a pretty solidly built cruiser bike and I rarely have trouble locking my bike. Both lock use the same key and the order comes with 6 identical keys. There is a plastic card inside with a link to the manufacturers website where you can register your keys. Should you every loose your keys they will ship a free replacement set, only have to pay about $20 US for shipping and handling. But honestly, with 6 keys, what are the odds one would loose all six keys?My bike is already pretty heavy so I don't know yet if I will use this chain with this lock or use the new u lock with my old cable lock. I may reserve the chain for additional security for overnight parking.Sturdy set, good price for the quality. Would recommend.

While the solid U bar is an excellent deterrent and you'd probably need an axel grinder to cut through it, that's not true of the locking bar, which feels very light and maybe mostly hollow compared to my Kryptonite U lock. You could probably cut through that with a decent cable cutter rather than an axel grinder. The chain lock however feels like it might be more solid and difficult to cut through even on the locking part. Time will tell, though.
