This seems to be a quality piece. It would actually do a great job cutting wood. Unfortunately, it's too pretty for that. I bought it for my daughter. It's got the perfect weight and balance for her but I bet it spends most of its time hanging on her wall. The steel is high quality and I suspect it would function well as a tool for carving or basic wood splitting, though I personally prefer a splitting axe to a hatchet for that.

Here we have yet another example of an ill-fitting sheath. Despite the sheath being quite strappy, with 3 separate snap straps, it still shifts and exposes the beard point. Also, the "leather" strapping on the handle is more akin to rubber. It smells like a cheap tennis racket handle. Lastly, despite the handle being the correct shape, more narrow at the handle and wider at the top, the axe was constructed incorrectly. The axe head should have been slid onto the handle from the bottom, but it was most obviously shoved onto the top. You can see how the wood is damaged from this poor method of construction. Then, they wrapped it with this very cheap rubber lashing and expect that to hold through hard use. This makes this axe dangerous to actually use as the head could easily fly off in an uncontrolled direction. It could easily lodge into the door of a car, so imagine what it could do to a human skull. As to the axe head itself: it seems fine. One, solid piece and sharp enough. I would value this item at no more than $30 as the only part of it of any value is the axe head. I intend to fabricate a new handle for it to be safe. Basically, they put a very sharp axe head onto a cheap axe handle. The fact it has an edge and a sheath dictates that it is intended to be used, rather than just a wall piece. However, the poor construction makes it very dangerous to actually use. This item is dangerous for the user and anyone near them. It looks nice and feels good in the hand, but please don't trust the construction.

I recently purchased this Viking axe, and let me tell you, it's not just a tool – it's a lifestyle upgrade! The moment I opened the package, I could feel the echoes of Odin's approval. The axe itself is sturdy, sharp, and perfect for all your pillaging needs.Now, the real fun began when my neighbors noticed my new acquisition. Suddenly, I became the unofficial Viking ambassador of the neighborhood. Every time I stepped out with the axe, my neighbors would exchange nervous glances, probably wondering if they had inadvertently moved into a Viking hotspot.One day, as I was practicing my axe-throwing skills in the backyard (don't worry, I'm a trained professional... kind of), I overheard my neighbors speculating about a horde of Vikings gathering at my place. They even started bringing me mead and offering sheepish smiles, as if they were trying to appease the newfound Norse deities next door.Little did they know, my only intention was to trim some branches and maybe scare away a few garden gnomes. Nonetheless, I've become the neighborhood's honorary Viking, complete with an axe that strikes fear into the hearts of lawn ornaments everywhere. Five stars for the axe, and an extra star for unintentional community building – thanks, Amazon!

Nice looking axe, I only rated it a 4 star because of how much the axe handle smells, it seems to be dissipating with time

Like the headline said, it's a great axe for the price. I was doubtful on the quality when it only cost $39, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It felt good in my hand and the blade is sharp. While it does have some imperfections, it's to be expected at this price. This was a budget friendly addition to my Renn fest costume. Just a heads up, the sheath does have a belt loop, so you don't need an axe ring. I didn't notice the loop from the pictures, or I would have saved $20.
