I've been giving my cats Vital Essentials minnows and chicken hearts long before the recent avian flu outbreak. I have a lot of faith in this brand. The quality of treats has always been high. They put out a statement at the start of the outbreak reassuring customers that they have increased testing and protective measures. They have a record of zero recalls. I've read that they have been communicative with the retailers that carry their products. I've also read that their poultry is sourced from places unaffected by the flu. I trust them. That said, I don't want to risk anything, so while I think these look great, I will be rehydrating them and cooking them to 165° before using them as meal toppers until we are out of this mess. Unfortunately I would recommend against all raw until it's safe again. This isn't an indictment of the company; it's just the way things are right now until they get the flu under control. I will be happy when we're past this if Vital Essentials continues to remain unaffected.

These freeze dried chicken morsels are so light they remind me of styrofoam. Or freeze dried ice cream? Anyway, the cats like them. The first time I offered them, each cat seemed eager and readily took one of these puffs. They seemed so dry I thought I’d try rehydrating a few to see how it went. I dropped a few in warm water. They didn’t absorb the water very well which is probably why the package recommends crumbling them first. But, I was experimenting so I just left them in the water for about 30 minutes. By then they seemed about 80% moist. I offered them to the cats but only one was interested and he ate his sibling’s portion too. So I tried dry again. Each cat ate their own but they were not as enthusiastic as the first time.

My cat does not care for these at all. I use them as dog treats as they are light and not filling for them. The cat doesn't like them at all - I don't know if it's the taste or the feel of them. I am certain most cats probably love these - mine do not.

Many reviewers seem to take issue with the size of these Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Soft Nibs, but that wasn’t a problem for our geriatric cat. We just added a little water, stirred with a teaspoon, and it turned into something almost identical to wet food. Since it’s nearly all meat, this could be a great option for cats with kidney issues. Our old guy, who is extremely picky and has a sensitive stomach (we don’t change his food unless we want to clean up kitty barf), tolerated these well—no stomach upset, no mess. We’re using them more as a treat than a full meal, but they seem high quality and convenient to crumble over food or to rehydrate. If you have a cat who needs a protein-rich diet and has trouble with other foods, this might be worth trying. It worked for us!

Ok, so I may have been a bit rash picking a few flavors out of this brand's list and accidentally got the feline version for the chicken... but in checking whether it'd be ok to give to my dog, it seems the ingredients are essentially the same past the main meat which makes up 99% of it anyway, and the pieces are even the same size (about 1in long by 0.6in diameter cylinders) compared to the other flavors I got that are intended for dogs. Honestly besides having the recommended feeding chart tailored to the species, the only real difference I see between the two is they're offered in different sized bags. For the cost conscious, I don't see why you wouldn't check the prices for the other version and just get the one that's cheapest per unit weight.Obviously can't speak to how good health-wise this is as a long term meal for cats, but my dog loves these as a treat. Smells good, I assume it has great flavor from how he reacts. And from a purity standpoint I love that this is basically just freeze dried ground meat with a few supplements added. My dog is big enough that let's just say I'd go broke trying to feed this as a meal, but as noted above these pieces are decently sized even for him. I'm surprised they didn't change the size for the feline version to be more suited.

This product is absolutely amazing! I have a ragdoll and sphynx cat and both love it. My ragdoll has a VERY sensitive stomach when it comes to raw, and even high quality brands like Open Farm and Primal will cause her to vomit within minutes of eating it. She ate this with zero issues and both of my kitties enjoyed every bite. They get a mix of wet food and kibble and they devour this stuff as first choice over the usual. Freeze dried raw is definitely very spendy (frozen is usually cheaper), but the convenience factor of being able to serving as is, crumble over food as a topper, or rehydrate with some water may make it worth it to some. This is a great company with good quality product. If it is in your budget, your kitties will appreciate the treat!

Cats seemed to like them but they are HUGE. I’m not crazy about feeding them something that they could choke on. Should be about a quarter of the size. I had to break apart. That’s annoying. Would not order again.

I’ve got 3 cats and only 1 will eat these; Hence the reason for the 3 🌟The texture is soft like, and fluffed up - Kinda reminds me of the Cheeto puffs.I do like that they’re ‘organic’ like, and all natural, as that’s more healthy for our babes 🐈⬛. I’m also sure that’s why my other 2 aren’t eating them…. Anything healthy they stay away from. 😂😭😂
