Does not open anything. One edge is serrated, other smooth. Does not grip either metal or plastic lids. Someone with arthritis will not be able to hold jar with one hand and have enough strength to open with other hand. Even my stronghanded husband could not open with this device. Would send back if I had kept the box. Trashed, not donated to any thrift shop.

I am 76 years old and struggle with opening containers. This product works well on many but not all lids depending on their shape. In fact it is deceptively easy once you get it aligned to the right and level spot. Better than any other jar openers I have tried.

Sorry this item just doesn't work for me. Tried it on a small soda bottle cap, couldn't do it. Tried it on a bottle of tomato sauce couldn't do it, brought it to my adult son ---he did it with difficulty. There is no rubbery component to grasp the jar, only metal. I threw out the box it came in so I can't return it.

Throw away your battery operated electric jar openers they don't last past five openings this little baby will work on every size jar immediately it's just amazing

I gave this jar opener one star. But I wish I could give it "0" stars.I "rarely" have any issue with any of the things that I buy from amazon, but this is one of those rare times.I'm very disappointed.I bought one of these jar openers many, many years ago. It's still working "great"! I'm 80 and my hands are bad with arthritis. So my jar opener is necessary and used all of the time. This style of opener totally prevents any strain on my hands and it works perfectly well for me. Always. As easy as any electric opener!So, I bought this one as a gift to give to my daughter who has MS. I took it out of the package to make sure it was okay before I mailed it. It looks fine, so I assumed it worked like my old one, but it just doesn't seem to want to work. It repeatedly slips off the lid and will not grip it. It works nothing like my old one (which looks exactly the same). I wish I had known this when I first received it. It just is not worth giving as a gift to my daughter now.Naturally it's beyond the return time so I feel like an idiot not testing it before now. I always purchase my gifts ahead. I don't like to wait until the last minute to buy whatever I'm going to give. Now I don't have any way to return it or exchange it for a working one. And this style of opener is not available in stores.This was wasted money. Again, I'm very disappointed in Amazon.- C David

I've been using this jar opener almost 4 months now & I don't regret buying this. It hasn't broken yet & is sturdier than the similar-style v shape opener that was plastic. That is why this weighs more. I do not know of any jar opener Ive tried that works on every single jar*** this will not open every one (to not get your hopes up) but it did open a twistoff bottle cap to much larger lids (box says up to 3.5 inch) ***The rubber pad on the under-side can stabilize the jar while you're trying to twist the lid off. With the age I am, sadly, both hands are very arthritic! :( so a bottle opener is a must. Only drawback (my opinion) is its a bit too pricey considering its made in china (thats why it won't open every lid) but I spent more $ on an electric fancy jar opener yrs ago probably from Krogers and that was a waste of $! This style bottle opener is as simple as it gets & if I know anything its that people (especially AT&T!!!:(:((: Always want to complicate things!!! This style hand gizmo is better than those thin rubber round discs I used to use. Considering its made in China I wouldn't expect anything better. Bon appetit & God bless
