Using the D, A and E string. Their sound is similar to Pirastro Obligatos but with more projection.I have used the Amber E strings for a couple of years - it has an outstanding sound, full and with no whistling whatsover.

I'm a former professional violinist with a very picky violin. For the past 20-odd years, I've had to use Oliv gut strings, ever since my preferred strings (Pirastro Synoxa) were discontinued. Every other string set I've tried makes my violin sound too bright and scratchy. Since I don't play as much anymore, I just can't continue spending $150+ on strings that break or go bad after a few months. After extensive research and listening to sound tests online, I decided to try the Warchal Ambers, since a lot of people say they compare to gut. To my ear, they do. The G is capable of that growly Gypsy sound, which I love about gut, and the D sounds very rich and warm as well. The E sounds very sweet and clear, and is comparable to the Oliv gold E. The spiral part of the E is interesting...I haven't played it enough to see if it keeps it from squeaking, but I never really had a problem with a squeaky E on this violin unless the string was really old. The A is the only question mark I have. I think it still hasn't settled in fully yet (it's been about a week so far). It sounds very nice on fingered notes, but there's a slight high-pitched overtone on the open A. I'll have to see if that goes away with a little more time. The other strings took about 3-4 days to settle in, but I didn't play extensively every day. The strings have great projection that seems to be about equal across all 4. Overall, I like these strings, and they seem to work well for mellowing out a naturally bright violin. I can't speak to longevity yet, but I hope they last a lot longer than gut. The price is certainly a much better value.

On my violin, the E-string sounds a bit different than the other 3. Perhaps it just needs to settle in - we'll see.

Although I found these took some time to settle in, once they did the tone was just beautiful. Very happy with these so far.

Warchal Amber strings- I now prefer over Evah and Obligato- more color and mellow with plenty of volume. Nice and even across the tonal range. Soft action and closest syn. to Oliv or other gut that I have played in feel. Dominants are a bit more expensive and durable, but not as warm. I don't use the spiral E-- rather Jargar Forte (I've never had the whistle problem....what's that?) I play and teach multiple hours per week.

Very happy with the quality and sound of these strings. Using them now instead of Eva Pirazzi strings
