I'm going to reinforce what another reviewer said: if your Whirlpool dishwasher isn't draining, look at this first. You'll need to look up a YouTube video on how to access it, but it's pretty easy.In my case, I did buy another drain pump. In the process of emptying out all the water I discovered this check valve had broken in two: the round section had detached itself from the rectangular section. So a replacement was necessary, otherwise the dishwasher will not drain. It turns out that the round section is the exact diameter of the drain tube and it had plugged up the drain tube. My drain pump was fine. This part fit perfectly into its housing.

Watched YouTube video which made the install easy. This is a cheap looking rubber piece. I seriously was skeptical that it would completely solve the water puddling issue in the Kitchenaid dishwasher. However, it really did the trick!

Fixed an issue where sediment remained on dishes after wash. This flap gets weakened overtime and its functionality as a backflow preventer is compromised. This lets sediment laden drain-water drain back into the dishwasher. Replace this component along with the grinding disk. Used this part to fix a Kenmore Elite brand. Dishwasher now washes like new; even on Time Saver cycle. Easy to install. There are YouTube videos if needed.

Once I got the washer apart, I found the problem. There was a smorgasbord of toothpicks, bones, and glass down there holding this little guy open. Cleaned that out and replaced the check valve even though the old one was in good shape. Price is a bit high for this little guy, but it works.

Dishwasher didn't drain. This small rubber piece, Check Valve, fixed the problem. Even though this piece "looked good", don't be fooled as I was. I had ordered a drain pump and that wasn't the problem. I double-checked the hose for blockage. I figured it was a much larger problem, the motor. Instead of ordering this expensive fix, I ordered the valve on the slim chance this was the problem. Well, that did the trick. When I examined both valves side by side, I saw no difference and the flexibility, upon my touch, was the same. Go figure.

Our dishes started smelling fishy and some dirty water was still on dishes after a cleaning cycle. Also noticed all the water was not draining completely out.First thing was to clean the filter and check for any debris stuck around the pump area. Tried the baking soda and vinegar mix.Next was to check the drain hose. I actually replaced it and made sure it had a high loop to eliminate dirty water going back into dishwasher. None of these fixed our issue.I came across a video suggesting to replace the rubber check valve in the dishwasher. I didn't even know it had a check valve because the hose has a check valve already. After pulling out the old rubber check valve and comparing it with the new one, I couldn't find a problem with the old one but replaced it anyways.Ran a load and it actually fixed the problem. First time in a while we've had an actually clean load of dishes without dirty water sitting at the bottom.I hope this post actually helps some folks.Search the part # on YouTube and there are a few good replacement videos on there.

This is a small piece of rubber that costs perhaps 20 cents to manufacture, then they sell it for almost $20. Insane. But it's better than spending $800 on a new dishwasher.

Had an issue where our dishwasher was not draining. After checking many possibilities turns out this check valve had deteriorated/failed, with the round part becoming detached and blocking the drain hose. Once we removed the broken parts and replaced with this part, dishwasher now functioning perfectly. So the part as ordered worked exactly as intended -- but I gotta say, what a ridiculously engineered part -- our dishwasher is only 5 years old, and looking at the construction of this part we believe it's only a matter of time before it will fail again. Guarantee 90% of owners would likely have encountered this problem, assumed a pump failure, and simply gone out and purchased a new dishwasher. This wimpy part causes what seems like a significant issue when it fails, and it's clear it will only continue to fail. Also - for a part that probably takes 5 cents to produce, the cost for this small piece of rubber seems incredibly excessive - but such is the parts business.
